Anyone know the origin of this? I can't even begin to contemplate how their deranged minds work.

Funny how Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor made such a movie that offended so many but they couldnt stop laughing. Those townsfolk in the beginning are definitely magas. If only we could get them to open up and change their minds and to see the charlatan mf45 really is.

The thing that I think is that the movie wasnt offensive back then, but it is now which is intensely interesting. It would be great if there was a serious cultural analysis of that. What happened between then and now that make this movie perceived so differently? Did anything happen? Were we less racist, as a society, back then? My instinct says no, we werent, so where were all the MAGATs?
There are so many aspects and issues.

(90,662 posts)...as a surprise, as Clevon's reaction is absolutely perfect.
I rewatched the film this year, because I love it, and in the back of my mind I wondered if I could share it with my 15 yo grandson. I realized I absolutely could not share it with someone that young in 2019, as the humor relies on a time, place, and gestalt that aren't available to anyone who wasn't alive then.

(53,410 posts)But I didnt just spring it on him. I talked about it first and gave him a bit of an education about the time it was made. About the humor, the director and the actors. About the satire involved.
15 year olds are the perfect age. And its priceless when a society can be so blatantly exposed to the light of day while making you laugh so hard that it makes tears come to your eyes. Humor is the greatest way to teach.

(63,221 posts)they got it from. She seems like the most together, most sober person in congress. I think they will just do anything to discredit her. They can't stand the idea of a strong, intelligent woman who will not back down in the face of republican corruption. So they make things up.

Just as easy to speed up a few frames so that a gentle hand motion to stop an intern taking a microphone from a reporter appears as a vicious and aggressive move. (Remember that one?)
Deep fakes are so much better . . . haven't seen any featuring Trump though, not really needed I guess.
