'What an insult': CES names Ivanka Trump as keynote speaker

Consumer-electronics trade show’s invitation of Donald Trump’s daughter draws outrage after years of overlooking women in tech

Leading consumer-electronics trade show CES is facing criticism after picking Ivanka Trump to serve as its keynote speaker next month in Las Vegas, after years of being accused of overlooking the role of women in technology.

The selection of Donald Trump’s daughter and top adviser exposes the vast electronics expo to charges that when, finally, it invites a female keynote speaker, it invites one with limited experience in technology.

“This is a terrible choice on so many levels but also – what an insult to the YEARS AND YEARS of protesting how few women were invited to keynote & being told it was a pipeline problem while similarly-situated men were elevated,” tech commentator Rachel Sklar tweeted. “There are so many great, qualified women. Shame.”

CES 2020, formally known as the Consumer Electronics Show, confirmed this week that Trump will join a keynote discussion on jobs and the future of work alongside Gary Shapiro, president of CTA, the firm that produces the event considered the largest of its kind globally.

As long as the public boo her off the stage.

This is what I’m reduced to wanting to do. Engage with them on the level that, yeah, invite them to speak. Then boo them off the stage and throw shit at them while they’re leaving.

Subtlety hasn’t worked. Here’s to a little overt action.

When it reaches a few tens of thousands, the organizers might rethink their decision.

If CES doesn't reconsider, someone in the WH will have her decline to avoid the serious pending Tweet storm.

When she invited herself to NASA Johnson Space Center and sat in a room with several female astronauts. Women who spent their whole lives working really hard with extensive education and training and overcoming insurmountable odds to earn their astronaut positions. Hey Ivanka why don't you try to impress them by showing off your phone with the cute child stickers on the case.

Can easily imagine something like this going down over a phone call by a WH employee to a CES board member:

“Well, I can understand if you’re interested in honoring somebody else who has actually been in the technology industry. I’m sooo very sure her father will be kind to CES on Twitter.”

...
Who put Ivanka‘s name in the running? Is ridiculous and they are again, flirting with emoluments violations.

I'm getting tired of saying that and have adopted it as the theme for the outgoing year, but this will go down as the last absurdity of Trump 2019.

Beyond owning a diamond encrusted wristwatch I don't know what her qualifications could possible be. Even Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors, would be a more fitting speaker, and that's just off the top of my head.
