The Mormon missionaries are taught a sort of patronizing Sunday Schoolmarm style of communicating. They all exhibit it in some fashion. It is what makes them seem stiff and insincere. Frozen smiles. Intense politeness. A that makes you feel as if they are addressing an errant child. Because that's how they see us.

The Mormon men treat their wives the same way. Like children. 5th grade level. 19th century.

And worse for Ann, she converted to the religion, so she was once allowed to have normal ideas about her role as a woman. No surprise Ann could not reach out to us at an adult level. She has been cultured to stay a child her whole life.

Sorry to have to say that if it comes off as offensive to Mormon women, but this is what I see. And I praise those who fight to escape such social conditioning.
