(42,770 posts)this is all a unique situation because we are going into this knowing we will lose. And, that Democrats are trying to speak to the public insuring them that there was a reason for impeaching. One person's opinion only, but if true, and you are trying to persuade and sway opinion, you speak without reading, you weave a story, you modulate, you speak with passion.

(4,919 posts)... every time she speaks, she prefaces... "As a former career law enforcement officer..." We get it already.. Just start talking to us.
Her arguments are super solid... I just find it a bit amusing that every time she pops up on my screen she states that.

(160,527 posts)People everywhere will be tuning in or out during their own available times, by repeating, and using direct language these managers assure everyone gets a chance to hear the actual information, not told to them by unscrupulous Republicans, also intending to conceal the truth.
I cherish the time they are taking and the effort they are making to keep pounding home the FACTS as long as they can. I would imagine people who are hoping as much as I am will appreciate this wonderful exposition they are sharing, revealing as already mentioned the contents of a "mountain of facts" they have already collected without the withheld, denied, buried material they should legally have had long ago to use for this legal process.
Thank you for making the unavoidably important statement.

(160,527 posts)They need to hear from citizens to make them aware how many U.S. Americans want to remove this evil slug.
Hope people of good character will by all means call their senators and leave the vital message they need to hear.
The managers are also trying to reach the people watching, over 11 million.
Welcome to D.U. mikewv.
I hope you are right

This is for all those people who are not paying attention. Even those Senators who have their fingers in their ears.

(15,124 posts)Presenting all these facts in an organized manner is hard work and undoubtedly exhausting. Listening and trying to understand is also work.
I think the House managers have been spectacular and I would bet you that the Republicans are EMBARRASSED that all they have as a response is arm-waving hyperbolic bullshit presented by pathetic losers like Sekulow and Cippolone.
We will likely lose the trial, but we are playing the cards we were dealt better than anyone had a right to expect. Disappointment in our people is totally unjustified.

(22,976 posts)Every %^¥+=! Fox News talking head is reciting the boring theme.
From the Washington Post, 1/23/2020:
Impeachment proceedings have something in common with Fox News
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/23/impeachment-proceedings-have-something-common-with-fox-news/
<snip>
At the top of Fox & Friends on Thursday morning, Doocy lamented the tendency of the House impeachment managers to revisit themes. If you were watching yesterday, you heard the same stuff you heard the day before, which you saw in the TV hearings, over and over and over, said the co-host.
A moment later, he quoted Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.): Certainly senators are struggling to see why we have to sit there
hearing the same arguments over and over and over and over again.
[The latest Trump impeachment trial updates]
An hour later, guess what? Doocy & Co. again alighted on the topic of impeachment. If you watched a little, and watched a little more, they just kept repeating the same stuff over and over and over, said Doocy.
An hour later, Doocy and couchmates Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade discussed whether lawyers for Trump would use their full allotment of 24 hours to make their case before the assembled senators. At which point, Doocy said, If the Republicans are smart, though, theyre watching the Democrats, who are repeating the same arguments over and over.
We asked Fox News if Doocy saw any irony in repeating over and over the same argument about the Democrats repeating the same arguments over and over. We will update this post if we receive a response.
In tuning in to the impeachment trial, Doocy came face-to-face with his own business model. Repetition, after all, is the foundational formula of all cable news: Find one major story, read it, run some footage, then analyze it. Do a commercial break, cover some other stuff, then return to the major story more footage, more analysis, more distortion, perhaps courtesy of a guest commentator.
Over and over and over.

Even the OJ trial was boring for vast stretches of time.
This is not, actually, entertainment. It's about presenting a meticulous, detailed treatment of a great deal of information.

(1,752 posts)remotely falls under the category of abuse of power - all the instances of profiting materially from the presidency, emoluments, paying off porn stars, etc. etc. etc.
Is there a reason why they need to stick with only the Ukraine incident?
Besides livening up the proceedings, it would establish that the Ukraine thing wasn't a one-off abuse, it's part of an ongoing pattern.
Certainly review the key moments of the house hearings (I know I enjoyed hearing Fiona Hill again) but mix it up a bit.

(14,898 posts)Schiff is good. There are flashes by the others. They need a master storyteller, though...one who could immediately grab the nations attention and hold it for the whole sordid story.
And it is a hell of a story. The problem is it is a complicated Trump is a traitor. He betrayed the Constitution, the office and the United States of America. His actions advance the interests of our nations chief adversary.
Trump hurt an ally by denying them military aid in exchange for help in destroying the reputation of his political rival. His lies serve to repeat propaganda weaponized speech developed by Russian military experts. A whistleblowers report about it all was denied to Congress.
Trump has lied to Congress and the American people. He has ignored his duty and ordered his subordinates to withhold accurate and timely information to Congress. He uses his office for personal enrichment.
Trump covers up his criminality with the help of sitting US Representatives and Senators. Imagine if AOC told it.
