Last edited Mon Jan 27, 2020, 10:42 AM - Edit history (1)
.
While reporting on Kobe Bryants death Sunday afternoon, MSNBC reporter Alison Morris says she stuttered on air and said Nakers rather than Lakers during the broadcast.
Morris offered that explanation in a tweet after receiving social media backlash from people who thought she said the n-word during the report.
.
.
She Moved From Fox to NBC News Now Last Year
In July 2019, Variety announced that NBC had hired Morris from Foxs NYC station as a full-time anchor. In the article, the outlet reported that Morris joined Fox 5 in 2014, where she worked as a business reporter and anchor and even received an Emmy nomination for her Lap of Luxury series, which investigated the worlds most exclusive luxury brands. Previously, Morris worked as a reporter in Paris, at CNBC Europe, and also worked as the evening anchor at Foxs WTIC in Hartford, Connecticut.
After being hired by NBC, SVP of editorial for NBC News and MSNBC Janelle Rodriguez released a statement that read, Were confident that she will bring an authentic, trustworthy and deeply journalistic voice to the product, which is already starting to become a go-to source for a rising generation of news junkies.
The video was posted by some asshole at OAN, so I'm not linking to that fucker.

(47,520 posts)I turn the TV off when she comes on, but I seriously doubt she used the "N" word. She does tend to talk a bit too fast, which I find annoying. As such it would be easy for her to mess up a word. If she'd just dial it back a bit, she would be less likely to make such a mistake.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)I think that she made an honest mistake when she said "nakers" instead of "lakers", she followed Los Angeles too fast, IMO, and that got her tongue tied.
PatSeg
(47,520 posts)I noticed about her, talking too fast and not appearing to care what she is saying or listening to what someone else is saying. It feels like she is trying too hard, but she doesn't realize, it makes her really hard to watch. Eventually she was bound to slip up, but unfortunately her slip up had really negative consequences.
Just because you can say something really, really fast, doesn't mean you should. I find it irritating and exhausting.

I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the problem is, neither the New York Knicks nor the LA Lakers are new teams. The brain isn't going to say the city right then fuck up the team name. If anything, she could accidentally say New Angeles Lakers or Nos Angeles Lakers, but again, once you've successfully uttered the city name, screwing the next part up seems impossible unless you have a secret nickname that you use when amongst friends.
All of that being said, I don't know this woman and I don't care about her opinions. I have zero energy available for outrage. If my hypothesis is correct, then just file this incident as another racist hater outing herself on live television. When people hate on you, that usually means you're winning.

(1,977 posts)She very clearly says Nakers. The person providing the slo mo version of the clip is actually helping make the point. I dont know how you mistake the long sound A with the short sound of i and then cant differentiate between k and gg and then ALSO completely overlook the context of what she was saying and then also disregard that she was talking about two basketball teams, one that starts with N and the other that has akers in the name.
To me if you dismiss her explanation which is completely plausible, understandable, and in my opinion backed up by the audio, then you are just looking for something to be outraged about. With all of the real world racist shit that is out there to deal with, ruining this persons career seems pretty dumb to me.
