but, any fool could have told you what he would do given that platform. Frankly from a gay perspective this was the best convention ever, bar none. Dolan didn't change that. But he was a stupid self inflicted wound. Next time, tell the bigot to stay home.

(417 posts)At the end of the day the other guys are worse, aren't they? I still think people have a right to voice their discontent with the hurtful Dolan prayer though.

(39,320 posts)but, I think that the fact that he spoke after our President kind of guaranteed that no one was going to listen to him. I think he was a token (because President Obama is president to all of America), and I also think that they knew that most people wouldn't listen to him.
I was watching CSpan, and when he was introduced, I switched to MSNBC. I think a lot of people switched.

(20,043 posts)but from what I've read more than gay people should be/were offended.
The entire convention the Dems reinforced their support of gay rights/equality and women's rights/choice, it's in our platform. Everyone was very receptive and supportive.
Along comes this blowhard he comes out swinging against both, looking like Archie Bunker on mega steroids. No better way to turn folks off of religion.
Give someone enough rope and they'll hang themselves. Just a thought.

(297,180 posts)the idiot bigotmonger, dsc.
My thought is..President Obama wins, we get the Senate, and hopefully the House and Civil Rights for All get even more Powerful and the dolans Lose Big Time.
But, I do hope the O Campaign is hearing how dolan's "speech" didn't over well with more than a few people. For Future Reference.

(22,541 posts)is what it was, plain and simple.
I'm proud of what we, as Democrats told that asshole and America BEFORE that. And nobody listened to him. I know I didn't. I won't be repeating his garbage either.
Thank you dsc.

(1,727 posts)how petty and unChristian it has become and maybe always was. It was the perfect ending to a convention built around inclusiveness. Dolan did not rise to the occasion. What a sham. He brought disgrace on himself and his church and on no one else IMHO.

(51,907 posts)--and all of the rest of the event. I thought having him last so that so many could ignore him was helpful--everyone at my convention watch event never knew he was even there. Insulting? Sure. But I also think it made him look like just a cranky jerk on the wrong side of history.
