It was the GREAT BLUE WAVE in 2018 that put the Democrats in control again. Whose fault was that? Contrary to Trump's finger pointing, Pelosi resisted impeachment until she could no longer. She didn't allow impeachment for his collusion with Russia. When he withheld military aid to Ukraine, that had already been approved by Congress, AND BY HIM, his behavior could not be ignored any longer.

cognitive dissonance, so i looked it up and discovered that's not it exactly. cognitive dissonance is demonstrated by my inability to quit smoking. so i searched for "why do trumpsters overlook all his bad traits and behaviors" and found this article:

which was I think insightful. What I think it misses is the effect of 20-30 years of propaganda. I truly do believe my brother is brainwashed by fox, while my sister is described better in this article. She's more a natural born authoritarian than he is.

Selfishness isn't new, but the closing comments (and linked article at FiveThirtyEight) give some insight as to why there is Trump support in surprising economic brackets, support which is not necessarily explained by tendency to authoritarianism or bigotry alone.
