The political divide in Oregon has gotten so severe that some conservative residents are fighting to secede and join Idaho.
The group known as "Greater Idaho" is seeking to create a ballot proposal in Oregon that would secede 19 counties located in the east and merge them with its neighbors.
Mike McCarter, one of the petitioners, said in a Facebook post that he and his neighbors are unhappy with the state legislature's work that threatens "our industries, our wallet, our gun rights, and our values."
"We tried voting those legislators out but rural Oregon is outnumbered and our voices are now ignored. This is our last resort," he said.
Greater Idaho says that two counties, Josephine and Douglas, have so far accepted the ballot proposal. The group is also seeking to add rural areas in California to the new state boundaries.

Not quite 1860, since they're not asking to secede from the US itself. But, what happens once the next Dem POTUS is sworn in on January 20, 2021?

(3,417 posts)Give them 2 senators and 38 percent of the house seats to represent their share of the population. Let's make them tax neutral so they are not sucking the resources from the economic engines that live in blue America. No more rural subsidies.
They can have their bible schools and gun-humping churches. The feds will keep title to the beautiful places. Logging, mining, and drilling will still be regulated to prevent "Redstatistan" from fouling the commons.
Let's see how long these "rugged individuals" last when the reality of their fairy tale delusion collapses.

(10,279 posts)They should petition the State of Oregon for relocation assistance to move out-of-state. As much as they don't like living in Oregon, it is probably more painful for the majority. Maybe refund to them the past 5 years of taxes they paid to Oregon could be a deal maker.

(3,145 posts)Now they get to experience what folks in places like Cleveland, St. Louis, Memphis and Houston go through: having a state government completely dominated by the opposing party shoving its values and policies down their throats while they are impotent to do anything about it.
Enjoy, fuckers!

You will remember that the "TEXIT" and "CALEXIT" nutbars leading those campaigns were chaos agents supplied by Moscow (plus a lot of useful idiot yokels)
We aren't really falling for this again, are we??
