Eckhart Tolle, just exactly WHY are we here?

“You are here to enable the divine purpose of the Universe to unfold. That is how important you are!”

Is that so? I thought you said:

"We are here to find that dimension within ourselves that is deeper than thought."

LOL.

I guess you'll next say that those two statements mean the same thing, or are both part of the same whole. Personally, I think you're full of shit, an opinion which happened to incense my sister-in-law... so I have to congratulate you on turning meaningless words on paper into big bucks.

3. You know why I think people get frustrated with Tolle

is because he experienced liberation but wasn't seeking it and doesn't know how he attained it; therefore, he can't really teach a path to others. He can only describe the essential state. So he's tried to reverse-engineer his enlightenment and ends up relying too much on the words of others.

Just a theory.

18. I think your summary is accurate. But I wonder what he's liberated from?

I used his materials to re-wire my brain at one point and for that it was good: Sort of bleach and rinse and start over. It's a different point of view and he's right about human hang-ups.

But when he starts claiming divine intention he loses me: I think this is all just science.

makes it easier to sell the snake oil to the rubes.

6. I had to look him up on Wikipedia.

I guess I don't hang out in those circles and have never watched much television.

In any case, I was vaccinated against German mysticism a long time ago.

7. Okay, I'll bite.

Why are YOU here? The reason I ask is, you express supreme confidence in your repudiation of the quotes you took the time and energy to post. Do please enlighten us with your wisdom.

Either life has meaning, or it doesn’t. More specifically, your life either has meaning to you, or it doesn’t. Greater minds have chosen to ponder the question. If you believe it doesn’t, that’s lovely. It matters nothing to me, aside from making me vaguely curious about why you call yourself “Goodheart.” It clashes with the cynicism oozing from the OP. BTW, my reply has nothing to do with religion or Tolle. I don’t subscribe to any established patriarchal religion, and only know of ET in passing.

8. Excuse me?

Unlike Mr. Tolle I have never CLAIMED to know why we're here, so why are you asking? And, no, I didn't repudiate EITHER of his "why we are here" statements, but only showed that he posited TWO separate definitive claims of why we're here... to illustrate the true nature of his words: vapidity.

"Goodheart" clashes with cynicism? Seriously? In THIS world? Are you suggesting that none of trump's critics, for example, are goodhearted? Are YOU not cynical of the man and his motives? LOL.

10. The problem with pointing out the bullshit spouted by

people claiming to know the meaning of life is some people will think you are talking about the meaning of life when all you are talking about is the bullshit. It might be because they think too much.

9. Life has meaning because of the stories we believe. That includes a lot of patriarchal crap.

Really, life is a complex series of accidents we weave into the stories we've been taught. Sometimes, if the accident is lined up just right in space, time, and our desires, we get to a place from before the stories, where nothing else seems to matter for a while. When we can get back to that place repeatedly, we find all the meaning we need in those moments. They become the part of the stories we like best because they are singular and non-transferable.

If it did, you might want to keep reading.

12. Did it MAKE me feel superior to a Tolle fan? Er, no.

I already felt that way.

"that dimension within ourselves that is deeper than thought"

LOL. WTF does that even mean? It's just drivel.

The point of my OP is to crusade against drivel.... that people might hold on tighter to their money than to waste it on bullshit.
