in an effort to downplay Obama's speech, when Bill Clinton systematically destroyed the GOP and their lies? They're not attempting to defend themselves. It's like they've conceeded the point, "yes, we're liars, so what?"

(36,063 posts)R's are good at nothing if not myth management, At the same time their base is quite capable of seeing only what the are told to see--and the content of Clinton's speech isn't what's being sold.
What's on the agenda for them is pushing Obama as an inferior product.
