In the battle to portray himself as the hero of the Coronavirus. Every time he goes before the public bragging about the great job he has done, his lies and failures to act in time, needs to be rebuffed by Democrats. If he is able to continue pounding his message of how great a fantastic he is doing the public will follow. If a thousand people die, he will claim that because of him and his team he saved ten thousand from dying. If the markets go below ten thousand it will be because of Trump's heroic and beautiful actions that they did not fall to five thousand. Biden and Bernie need to be myth busting as hard as they can go rather than throwing rocks at each other.
Of course the Republicans would cry foul and be wringing of hands an pulling of hair, "at at time when we should be putting partisanship aside" while they continue boldly pushing a Hollywood fiction as the truth. If there is ever a time when Trump's failures need to be in the spotlight, it is now.
It is time for an all out offensive against this administration.

(16,616 posts)complaining about it. Most people will see the contrast and draw intelligent conclusions. As for the Fox News crowd, I honestly couldn't give a rat's red ass. This isn't about Trump anymore.
EDIT: We'll see if he's "winning" as the death toll climbs.

(12,712 posts)I consider this a massive gullibility litmus test for the country and an example of The Spectacle and the powers of The Simulation.
Platitudes and conspiracies. Insubstantial rhetoric. Image over substance. The repetition of lies construed to be truth, etc. All the road to ruin.

(7,947 posts)He can't help adding to his big plea for bipartisanship furious insults at two Democratic governors who are doing a good job.
He can't help intoning the script written for him with a tone of profound boredom and only perk up when he gets to insult someone or fall back on his racist, xenophobic impulses.
He can't keep himself from casting blame on everyone else and justifying his own incompetence.
There are no doubt 43% of Americans -- his usual lickspittles-- who keep saying they approve of him. But he can't win with that.
I greatly fear what will happen is -- as things get worse, he will try to cancel the election, or postpone it, and will get away with it. He has that wiliness of a weasel-- and the willing participation of the entire GOP, who I think will lose loved ones to his crisis and still make excuses for him.
I don't get it. They deserted Bush I, a better man and better leader (not a good one, but not bad for a GOP president), to go with a loony rich guy (enough of them, anyway, to doom him), but literally nothing Trump can do makes them think of the country first.

(3,818 posts)I think as long as effective political ads keep getting made, and the supply of material he's providing is making it easy, people will be able to see clearly the difference between action and bullshit.

(115,828 posts)know he's full of crap. We are relying on our governors and mayors, most of whom are doing what they can without the help of our feckless federal government, which barely even exists any more. He'll claim credit for any positive news and blame someone else for whatever goes wrong - but that's the way he rolls, all the time. Most of us are onto him.

But anyone with a shred of reason can see whats going on here.
Is it enough to overcome the apathy? I see a shit ton more apathy than I think is called for here.

(11,744 posts)It isn't so much the lying because that only works on the idiots that already believe him. It is the apathy that is most alarming. That there aren't more people paying attention and noting that we have an idiot in the White House and that we need to get him out; that is what is scary.
I do think however, as this situation gets worse and there are no sports, no movie theaters, and other distractions go away, that people will see what an asshole we have in the White House. Perhaps that is naive, but it is my sincere desire.

(45,018 posts)Trump will of course demand praise... like he's doing already.
Like claiming credit for the sun rising after hours of darkness.
Truth is he's fucked things up every step of the way and the
country would be so much better off without him or his
clownish 'decisive leadership'. Just.. resign.
