Though the U.S. health care system is projected to be overwhelmed by an influx of patients infected with the novel coronavirus, the pressure on hospitals will vary dramatically across the country. Thats according to new data released by the Harvard Global Health Institute, which for the first time gives a sense of which regions will be particularly stressed and should be preparing most aggressively right now. The maps weve created based on the data shows why public health officials are so intent on flattening the curve, or slowing the spread of infections over a longer period of time, like 18 months instead of six.

(14,571 posts)1. I called my local hospital this week to see if they needed people to sew masks for them
and had a conversation with a coordinator. She explained to me that our hospital has been on "emergency" footing for quite some time now and they feel like they are well prepared. It was good to hear. Only two cases confirmed in our county so far and everything has been closed for two weeks now. If every citizen needs to be hospitalized, then we're screwed (24,000), but I felt good after I spoke to her.

I'm glad to hear your area is well prepared. I hope we can collectively stem the tide.

One is in Boulder Colorado and the other NYC. Freaks me out.
Sleeping is overrated, right?

We have 4 for about 18,000.
Good point.
