Spread of COVID-19 into 'Trump country' could pose problem for president's re-election hopes: David Frum

Pandemic won’t stop U.S. elections in November, predicts political commentator

"SNIP.....

Political commentator David Frum says the U.S. presidential election will go ahead in nine months, but the COVID-19 pandemic could still pose problems for U.S. President Donald Trump's re-election hopes.

....

Frum warned that when cases of the virus begin to spike in Republican states, their models of small government could hinder the response.

"The government of Mississippi is less comprehensive than the government of California," he told Galloway.

"And so when it hits, as it's now hitting in Louisiana for example, those governments are going to be overwhelmed faster. They have less capacity than the richer, blue states do," he said.

"It is going to sweep through Trump country too, it's just going to come a little bit later because Trump country is a little less networked to the rest of the planet."

.....SNIP"

It is t-rump's cult. All he needs to do is blame: Liberals, Obama, Hillary, Biden, Nancy P., Soros, Progressives, Blue States, Democratic Party, anything with the a "D", ie devil, dangerous, demented and Democrats and Democrat Party, et al.

Shorter version, I think most are lost . . .

"The senior pastor of Hope Church, Reverend Rufus Smith, and 11 other staff members are also under self-quarantine due to their contact with Morris. Rev. Smith says he is asymptomatic.

The church campus will be closed until April 7, per Mayor Jim Strickland’s “Safer at Home” order."

Memphis is a relatively small, generally Blue area, interspersed with rednecks. Memphis & Shelby County have been proactive, considering, but the maggots still feel need to continue gathering in person for their religious bs.

This is a huge church. Wikipedia 2014 #s 6,800+ congregation size. Oh yippee. What idiots! (Not condemning for their individual faith, but gathering in pandemic pyts us all at great risk! Surprise: more egocentric bs from them!)

It has to be their nose that gets bloodied before they start caring. Considering those states' and their politicos' eagerness to follow Trump's "get back to normal" tendencies, they could get socked all at once when the virus spreads like wildfire afterward.

Oh, they will get socked, all right! All of 185 ventilators for a metro population of 1.4 mil.

And I doubt that takes into account the fact that much of MS would flock to Memphis metro area hospitals.

The seeming lack of capacity for independent thought in this region is astounding!

I'm originally from the Chicago suburbs...many years ago, Chicago had a mayor who screwed up ONE snowstorm snow removal. 😱😳 STRIKE THREE! That was it. lol

Even well educated professionals just can't seem to get it. People are actually waiting for schools to open up any day. 🤯 Who the fk in their right mind would send their child into a covid petri dish just because some shitbag repuke said so?

I have to wonder whether our society will ever - in my lifetime - stop behaving like children in a dark ages family, acquiescing to anything "daddy" (governor, pResident, etc.) says, when such edicts are nonsensicle and, these days, deadly? Not that I am advocating for anarchy. I just feel the populace needs to empowered to recall scum from public office at all levels.

Schools here waited for "daddy" (gov shitbag Lee) to sign legislation absolving schools of financial penalties for not completing state tests, etc. That's fine, but then they waited for "daddy" to recommend extending schools remain closed (until, I think April 24th).

Mighty big of him...and the districts.

And I should say the Democratic leadership in Memphis & Shelby County has been exceptional, in spite of dirtbag Lee. And, I believe, our Dem leadership here will continue to act in the public's best interest. Why not? Lee never doles out any funding to this region anyway.

But many folks here don't think the pandemic will "last that long." 😧

I am honestly beginning to feel this is like an evolutionary split under the magnifying glass, so to speak.

A high degree of social conscience is indicative of optimum mental health. But this is clearly absent in maggots. This, coupled with the antisocial, illegal behaviors typical of that group, and the objective medical testing indicating brain malfunctions supports my contention.

Yup, their need to gather in large groups at church is going to wipe out a big segment of shitstain's base, IMHO. Sadly, they will infect others along the way.

I can't recommend it enough. Once you read it, everything about our current political landscape, and the confounding behavior of the Deep South you mention, will make complete sense.

As far as Mississippi hospitals, only those in north Mississippi and the delta will head to Memphis. Others in central Mississippi will head to Jackson. The southern portion of the state will find it tough going, maybe heading to the coast. It will get ugly.

Nice to meet you!

I really appreciate you taking the time to recommend "American Nations!" I already have a hold placed on the library's ebook. I can't wait to inhale it!

Confounding behavior is the understatement of the century! I definately feel like Alice in Wonderland in this cultural environment.

I really think I'm onto something, though, with the concept that this group is evolutionarily different - not in a good way. LOL

Prefrontal cortical function is sorely lacking...these folks literally cannot keep a grocery store stocked on the best of days. And the blatant disregard for professionals -- even medical doctors' orders for school situations -- is mindblowing. 🤯

Just their general refusal to deal with reality is surreal. I had my grandson at the doc on 3/13 to get a note for excused absences that week as I could easily see the bullet train's headlights coming at us. I tried explaining that we are both high risk, that several kids were coughing all over the school & that the school never even has soap in the restrooms.

The doc was very dismissive of the reality of this ongoing pandemic and the imminent threat. She *laughed* & said her kids were going to be on spring break the following week & said she was taking them to Disney World for the week! 😱🤯 A doctor - a medical doctor! 😧 I am guessing they were present at that gathering of 50K in rat world at the kick off of break week.

I wish them well, but I wonder what's going through their heads now, after the fact. Probably nothing more than "you can't never trust a woooomiiiin" & "daddy always kbows best." 🤮

Yes, it's going to get ugly for sure.

Be well!

Although I feel you are stating it in jest, it hits too close to home with things I heard from actual white supremacists while growing up in Alabama.

Yes, it is surreal. I wouldn't say "Alice in Wonderland" because that connotes a trippy quality that could be fun. For me it's more like being a spy in enemy territory, "Behind the Kudzu Curtain" if you will.

It's the culture, pure and simple. Culture is homo sapiens chief tool of adaptation and it is very powerful in our social species. The Deep South has a perfect nexus of cultural elements that play into its regressive and subliminally bellicose perspectives and mindsets. I've been raised in it, lived in it. I've seen it.

You’d be shocked at how close many of these areas are close to being 3rd world countries. And without various federal programs would be. Alabama, South Carolina, parts of Louisiana and Arkansas and by far Mississippi are the worse. Many of these counties don’t even have what qualifies as a real hospital in most states with no ICU capacity. It won’t take many people at all, not even dozens, to completely overwhelm them. Then people who could easily be saved will start dying. They need to isolate more than any of the other states because they are already on the edge.

And Lordy are they Jesus fans. They will not stop going to church unless forced. They will still be trump fans but there will be way less of them.

I've read accounts from U.N. personnel who compared what they found in the Alabama Black Belt to what they've seen in Third World nations.

Sadly, what few rural hospitals they had have been closing over the last few years. It is fallout from their Republican governors refusal of Medicaid expansion involved with Obama's health care plan. They would rather see their citizens die than be associated with the 44th POTUS.
