Had my routine physical today...

I called my doctor and told them I was canceling due to the virus. They said they were prepared and I would be fine.
When I got there, several people in the parking lot were standing outside their cars, wearing gloves and masks.
A sign on the door read, "We are not taking walk-ins. Please call XXX-XXXX and make an appointment. We do not have test kits for the corona virus. If you are coughing or have a fever, knock on door for a mask and gloves."
I stayed outside until a couple minutes before my appointment. I used my coat sleeve to open the door. When I went in, I noticed both waiting rooms were empty. They immediately took me to an exam room. When my doctor came in, I noticed she wasn't wearing any gloves or mask, only her assistant was when she took my vitals and drew blood. I could hear people coughing severely in other rooms. My doctor probably has 8 or so exam rooms. After my physical, I was told to leave by the rear door, and they would bill me for the co-pay. I got in my truck and slathered myself with sanitizer.

Do stay well.

In contrast, I received an e-mail from Mass General Brigham with regard to their new policy on appointments:
Dear Patient Gateway User,

As part of Mass General Brigham's (Partners HealthCare) COVID-19 response efforts, all scheduled non-urgent appointments and procedures will be deferred or shifted to a virtual appointment for the duration of the State of Emergency in Massachusetts.

All urgent and essential appointments will remain as scheduled, however, if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please call your health care provider before your visit. For your safety and the safety of others, please do not come to clinic or emergency room unless you have been instructed to do so. As always, if you are experiencing a medical emergency please continue to call 911or go to your closest Emergency Department.

Your provider's office will contact you regarding any modifications to upcoming appointments. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe by limiting the spread of the virus and allowing our teams to care for the sickest patients.

Stay up to date with information from Partners HealthCare about Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Thank you,
Partners Patient Gateway Support

8. I had an appointment that was cancelled w/ MGH. It was just a follow up, so no big deal.

I'm actually glad they did cancel. They aren't even rescheduling at this point. Just cancelling and said they would call back to reschedule at a later time, which is fine with me. Anything I can do to lighten their load is no burden on my part.

Every one of my providers at that hospital is so dedicated and professional. I am not a prayer, but they are all in my thoughts and I wish the best for every one of them.

I hope they all remain healthy, physically and mentally. They are all heroes in my eyes and it makes me so angry that any politician is playing games with their lives.

I am so fucking furious at Trump I could just spit nails! How DARE he do this to our most dedicated health professionals, regardless of the state they live in or their political affiliation. It is so fucking SICK! I won't even say what I wish his fate to be.

3. That sounds exactly like the clinic where I work.

At this point, since COVID is known to be in the community, everyone is screened several times before they even walk the door. If there is suspicion at all of the virus, patients are escorted out to the tent in the parking lot, examined and usually tested. The primary care clinic is only seeing "healthy" people, or those with ear infections, ingrown toenails, etc. Remember too, that many illnesses cause coughing and this is allergy and flu season.

so many of us. Sounds like they are taking every precaution.

What state are you in? That could make a difference.

10. Yes, but the same applies if you go to a grocery or drug store.

Or if you're anywhere near people.

We're all worried.

9. It occurred to me to check the CVS Minute Clinic website

to see how they were handling possible exposure to CV via walk-ins to their sites. They've gone over to a "by appointment only" system which can be scheduled online, but they've also come up with Video Visits to screen whatever your health concern is. At $59 a session, this might not be a bad deal for anyone needing some minor assistance where they don't want to sit and wait in a doctor's waiting room.
