(16,786 posts)My husband pulled more of our retirement funds into money market accounts. Over 60% protected.
He has retirements from IBM, the Military, a small manufacturing company in town, plus SS. We have cut way down our food portions so that groceries last longer, do errands when needed, order takeout from our favorite places to support local businesses.
I have sewing commissions on the schedule that are still on. Alterations as they come in. Been making masks this past week. Staying home.

(7,314 posts)And like any reasonable person, I intend to move my safer assets as retirement date approaches.
I moved my daughter's college fund out of stocks last year. Congratulating myself on that. Still took a little hit, but not plans-changing hit.

(670 posts)I'm a government employee and have a traditional pension thats not affected by the short term market swings. My 401k and 457 took a hit but not too bad since I shifted to a more conservative asset allocation (55% stock) 18 months ago. I was also mentally subtracting 20% from the total since we were due for a recession. It also helps that my wife has a stable job and wont retire for another year.

(2,769 posts)But, a month ago, I turned 80 and decided that I can semi-retire.
I've not taken any funds from my IRAs or savings except for two emergencies.
I was planning to start taking out some funds --- but now I don't dare. I'll see how far I can go on just SS payments. Luckily, I have no debts and my house is long paid-for.
