"[Trump is] so attentive to the scientific literature & the details & the data. I think his ability to analyze & integrate data that comes out of his long history in business has really been a real benefit -- this is shocking, hackish stuff from Dr. Birx.

(58,785 posts)Before Trump's press conferences, the epidemiological team she and Fauci are part of meet to discuss events and agree on their expert message to Trump. Then they meet with Trump. Then they leave and his speechwriters write something at his direction while they wait and wonder. Then they arrive on stage hoping that SOMETHING of their advice to him will have stuck.
Just what do you think is in it for us for her to be kicked out with Fauci?

(58,785 posts)in the deep south who does. That includes lots of people who've planned to vote for him again and already had disbelieved much of what he was saying -- before it became a matter of life and death for them and their loved ones.
Second, who would talk truth to him if all principled people abandoned the battlefield? No one, by definition. He'd replace them with the type of corrupt, morally void scoundrels he wants anyway.
Third, shouldn't we armchair warriors just have a bit of humility in second-guessing the decisions of top experts desperately trying to do what must be an enormously stressful and frustrating job? For us? Just maybe they know a lot of things we don't? Reading a few lay articles does not put us even within distant sight of their league or the realities they are working in.
Btw, Dr. Fauci was down to 3 hours of sleep for days before he disappeared for a couple, and god only knows what the stress is doing to him, tough as he is. He's almost 80 years old.

The only picture that concerns Dr. Mengele, is keeping her job and her "important" position! She's serving the only person, that's important in her life...herself!!!
The moment she began to lie, to kiss his ass, there was no big picture, there was only Dr. Deborah Birx!!!!

I was right to do so because she was being the target of misogyny at the time, a lot of people were unaware of her background.
But THIS.......it is scaring me. We have what appears to be a normal person suddenly saying incredulous things about trump, things which are ludicrous to almost everyone.
It is as stunning as Lyndsey's golf game turn around.

President Obama Nominates CDCs Global HIV/AIDS Director Deborah Birx As Global AIDS Coordinator
Jan 10, 2014
The White House has nominated a physician scientist whose career began three decades ago with a focus on immunology, vaccine research, and global health, to succeed Global AIDS Coordinator Ambassador Dr. Eric Goosby and lead the Presidents Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief. Dr. Deborah Birx, who as director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention and Controls Global AIDS Program serves as point person for PEPFAR implementation at the CDC, was named today to fill the post that has stood vacant since November 1, when Ambassador Goosby left the position to return to clinical research and practice.
Birx will still need to be confirmed by the Senate, following a hearing in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, according to the Center for Global Health Policys Science Speaks blog (Barton, 1/9).

(63,221 posts)How does a stupid, vulgar, incompetent man like Trump turn formerly respected, intelligent people into drooling lackeys?
I mean, it just baffles me. I can't understand why people become so loyal to such a horrible, ignorant, corrupt person who is clearly going to crash and burn before this is all over, taking them all down with him.
All I had to do was take one look at him and listen to him for five minutes and I could tell he was a complete loser and phony. And this was way before he even became president. How can people not see through his bullshit? I don't understand how people can be so blind and stupid.

(24,414 posts)and was astounded at what she was saying. It sounds like they are they are starting to fall in line with Trump's "plan" to shut down the shutdown soon and downplay some of the potential worst case scenarios, but more importantly she seemed to be minimizing what is actually going on in NY
Oh, and Trump is now just calling her "Deborah" so that was probably a bad sign as well.

(53,410 posts)Has she fallen in thrall with him?
Is it the belief that Trumpism is now a permanent American government structure? That Dear Leader is here to stay and the only alternative is to embrace that?
Did he flirt with her so she now imagines a lucrative future for herself because in her deluded mind he promises her wealth?
She obviously thinks catering and pleasing him must be preferable in some personal way. Has he somehow, in his unique coded language that Cohen told us about, promise her a special privilege only his closest sycophants are allowed?
Her capitulation smacks of falling in love. The way he flirted with her in front of the cameras when she said she had felt a bit of a fever and he joked about moving away from her got a definite giggly response from her. I caught it immediately and Im pretty sure most women did too. And like me, most women just cringed a little but let it pass. Why? Because were hoping she has influence on him.
