If the right wing psycho-governor doesn't want to do the right thing, what can be done to keep US SAFE?
I don't want them "traveling" here and infecting my family after every single person in Mississippi gets infected.
This is bad for the rest of us.
I know there are folks in Mississippi who would like the governor to act like a human who wants other humans to live, but killing people is really popular in red states.
Yes I know there are lots of people in Mississippi social distancing but they are encouraged to barbecue, and party and go to church by their insane governor.
Something has to be done.
Trump? Oops, sorry. No Trump. It's still a Dimmocrat Hoax! All will be well by Easter. King Donald has spoke.
Of course everyone knows I am kidding. There are lots of great people in Mississippi doing all they can to stay alive. It just sucks that their governor is putting all our lives in danger, along with theirs.

(28,820 posts)That would mean the world should shut out the US from the rest of the world.

(38,187 posts)Poverty keeps me in a crappy red state, not love from the jerks around me. It is just plain poverty. When the largest local employer in your home county is freaking Walmart, you aren't moving to paradise in this lifetime on those wages. I resent the thought of being walled off with these right wing lunatics and left to their lack of mercy. OP is right that they are hideous, but what about the 40% of so of each of those red states who are Democrats. Why punish us any more than we have already been punished due to circumstances?
And by the OP's logic, the rest of the world could just seal America off and punish us the same way. After all, we let a crappy person take over our White House and "lead" us into misery like this. I guess they haven't thought ahead on that logic. You are exactly right.

(25,816 posts)It makes as much sense as Rick Perry wanting Texas to secede when
he was governor.
What state do you live in?

(38,187 posts)He likes walls too. Maybe you can get him to do it. Just remember there are Democrats in those states too, who did NOT vote for the batshit, selfish ass Republicans. Besides, Trump is from NY. Are you suggesting walling off NY too because they spawned a piece of shit uber right wing Republican too? No state is immune to stupid Republicans. And there are Democrats in the states you hate too. You want to leave us to fend for ourselves knowing we'll all be killed first thing? Why do you support a massacre of so many Democrats? You are still going to have your fair share of stupid assholes around you too in your own state. I guarantee it.

(9,313 posts)If we can assume that at least 1% of the population is currently at some point in the cycle -- incubating, mild symptoms, or serious -- then there are at least 30,000 out there in MS, waiting to be detected with more extensive testing.
The areas worst hit will be the larger cities (Jackson, Biloxi, Tupelo, Gulfport, Meridian, Hattiesburg...)
Unfortunately, MS has, so far, only tested about 10 people per 10,000.
Lots more cases to be detected out there.
It is also guaranteed that there are more COVID-19 deaths than reported. Denial of the problem though about March 1 means that many respiratory illness related deaths that would have been COVID-19 positive if they had been tested went undetected. After March 1, testing continued to be "rationed" to such an extent that people admitted to hospital with COVID-19-like symptoms were treated as if they had COVID-19 without ever getting a confirming test. When they died, they were not counted as COVID-19 deaths.
If MS ramps up testing, you'll see numbers jump. If they don't, then you won't see an increase in reported cases, but you will see an increase in hospitalizations. They may, or may not, start reporting deaths more accurately. The undeniable evidence of the real number of cases will be how overwhelmed the hospitals become.

(9,313 posts)... travel restriction order, but enforcement would be another matter entirely.
Maybe cell phone tracking Link to tweet
?s=20" target="_blank">like this could at least show where people leaving those states go -- places to target for more intensive testing and monitoring.
Just a thought.
