GM and Ventec Life Systems are teaming up to produce ventilators. They are currently converting the GM Components plant in Kokomo, Indiana, into a ventilator factory. GM told the government: we can make all the ventilators you want, all we want you to do is pay for the parts (and GM/Ventec have negotiated the price of those parts down to manufacturer's cost - NO ONE is making a profit on these things) but the quantity of ventilators you want is going to cost $1 billion. Just send us a contract and we'll start whipping them out as fast as our fingers will move.

Trump being who he is, he doesn't want to pay a billion dollars for ventilators that might go to keep a Democrat alive.

Trump also called on GM to reopen the Lordstown Assembly Plant to make ventilators. Just for the record, GM doesn't even own the Lordstown Assembly Plant any longer. They sold it to an electric pickup startup.

And now, because Trump is pissed that none of the money for those ventilators is going into his pocket, he invoked the Defense Production Act to force GM and Ventec to make the machines at a significant loss.
