https://www.rawstory.com/2020/03/watch-baptist-preacher-dismantles-meagachurch-leaders-boast-were-winning-during-coronavirus-crisis/The preacher that got pissed off is upset because he believes the foundation of Christianity and God's purpose is for people to hold onto their faith even through their suffering. To me, this is sick. This is like staying in a marriage where you are abused, neglected, tormented, just because you're supposed to, just to prove you're worthy of existence. Screw that and screw any God who can't do better than that. Where is the comfort in such a religion? Such concepts provide a model for sick relationships. I reject this crap. GET THEE BEHIND ME!

(22,035 posts)They tell us Jesus loves the little children. Then why do children the world over go hungry and suffer from illnesses? That's a loving god?
They tell us god is benevolent. Then why has this god tried to destroy its creation over and over? Why would a benevolent god allow wars and natural disasters to befall this god's people?
They tell us god is all-knowing. Then why didn't god know that its creation of humans was flawed?
Try reading the Bible and find consistency. It's such a hodgepodge of confusion! My favorite example is right at the beginning in Genesis. Chapter 1 tells the familiar creation story. Then Chapter 2 tells a completely different creation story! So which is correct? Both cannot be right.
It's all such utter bullshit.

(5,275 posts)Lots of people, including our VP right now, believe there was nothing 6001 years ago. That all of the sudden there were people and Dinosaurs etc. That of course is provably false scientifically with things like carbon dating.

(2,429 posts)...their ignorance than seeking the truth isn't nice, it's exasperating. Right? Main reason I left Christianity in the first place. But hey! Seeking the truth did INDEED set me free, just as the Bible said it would! The irony!

Half of them attribute Shakespearean quotes to the Bible.
Also, their "god" is a psychopath.

we respect all worship here, and pretty much the ban on gathering is affecting many temple festivals who like to have a large parade. the largest one attracts upwards of 100,000 peoples over as many as 12 days

they were going to go ahead with the festival a few weeks ago, the government cdc asked them not to. and they listened.
I'm sure some of the local japanese temple festivals are similar.

(24,396 posts)in the life story of Jesus as presented in the NT that is any different from similar stories told about other godmen from the same time. There is nothing about the story of Jesus that requires him to have existed as a corporeal human being, any more than the stories of Zeus or Odin need a human foundation for their life stories. The mythical basis for all of these godman is basically the same in broad terms. The only difference lies in which specifics are accessed from the menu of looks like a god man characteristics and applied to a specific godman or god.

Oh, it has chili powder, but that's about it.
Personally, I believe Christianity ends where Calvanism begins. At that point, the stretch is just too far from Orthodox teaching. Double-double predestination is the deal breaker for me.
