Your Body: Who should decide what goes in and comes out?

While it seems like a no-brainer, I won't make any assumptions about this without a completely unscientific poll! Here, I mean anything, in or out. I am also looking for who you think should say first what goes in or out, since there may be situations, such as surgery, where you may defer to an expert's opinion.

Well, who do you think should decide first what gets put into or taken out of your body?

on foreskins. Who would have ever known this without the smart people here on DU to inform us, even those of us with firsthand exposure/experience that seemingly contradicts that fact?

Sometimes they have a whole lot invested in those beliefs and will rabidly defend them, even when they are factually wrong or demonstrably a bad idea.

I have so much more patience with people now than I did with fucking bush in office. That means I now have one unit of patience.

I don't think I can keep up with the need for strict regulation of pesticides, drugs, safety measures, and a host of other things, so I do let regulatory agencies decide a fair amount for me and try to stay informed. There's a lot of just plain taking it on faith, though.

...that would be killing us with cancer before we knew it was there if did not have the EPA, for example. But the EPA makes decisions based on budget and politics, not just on what's best for you and I. If we are to abdicate control of our bodies to a regulatory agency, how do we ensure that said agency always has our best interest in mind?

I maintain that without them, we get China, and we know how well those lead-based baby toys were regulated and what killer dog food they make.

...but, yeah. Just as checks and balances seem to work for our government, so should we apply them to things that affect all of us with adverse potential. There are things I like about China, but I don't believe they have the whole capitalism thing down yet, with or without Hong Kong.

old white strangers, what about young white strangers or middle aged white strangers. Or how about young asian strangers, or middle aged arab strangers, or why not an indian person I'm acquainted with?

Do you think only old white strangers have something to say on what comes in or out of a person's body or are the only ones who think they should have the right to tell others what goes in or comes out?
