Because he can. Because, yes, he really is that petty.

Did you see Rachel Maddow last night? with reports that 'according to a source familiar with the matter, as of Wednesday night the Javitz Center had fewer than ten patients and the USNS Comfort had fewer than five patients even as New York City hospitals struggle to keep up with the volume of COVID-19 patients.' That at a federal level they have been instructed not to take Covid-19 patients... I blinked twice as I listened to this. What the hell is the point of sending additional resource to support a city at the centre of a deadly pandemic, and then telling that resource they cannot help with the pandemic?

I cannot help but think this is a mean spirited and deadly two fingers up at the city of his birth, who have so profoundly rejected him. He is a narcissistic sociopath. Oh, and he is incompetent to a breathtaking degree. A very fatal cocktail of toxicity.

...if they follow through with the plan to aggressively take up the burden of non-COVID cases.

If they don’t do that then the Comfort is just there for a photo-op.

were not sent to care for Covid patients. They are not equipped for viral infection care- they are military hospital ships intended to care primarily for military type war wounds- blunt force trauma, gunshots, burns, broken bones, etc. they have 750 Beds and several operating rooms, but they are not laid out or equipped to isolate a large number of viral victims.

The purpose of their going to New York and to Los Angeles was to relieve hospitals of routine accident victims, gunshot victims, and normal hospital patients that otherwise would be occupying hospital beds. Those patients can now be moved out of hospitals to make room for Covid patients needing care.

If you had an unfortunate accident and broke a bone, would be somewhat comforting to know you would be going to a medical facility that is designated non Covid19. Not a total comfort by any means Im sure. Almost has me thinking some big cities could try to implement something like this thought. Take the smallest hosp in city,,maybe a 100 bed one, and designate it it non Covid, although I'm sure all hospitals in affected areas have been compromised by now.

The Javits Center and the USNS Comfort are specifically intended to be used for non-CoVid patients in order to minimize the exposure of those who are in need of medical care from exposure to the virus.

If your point was not to suggest that Trump is flipping the bird to New York because the Javier’s center and hospital ship are not being used for Covid patients I’m not sure what it was.

And as many have pointed out the decision not to use those facilities for Covid patient — made by the medical experts not trump — is the right thing to do.

I was merely attempting to clarify that in this country fewer people know that the "two finger up" gesture is equivalent to our middle finger gesture.

. . . . . to imagine how we might make use of the Javits Center and the Comfort.

They will possibly start by *safely* moving long term patients from NYC hospitals to these two locations. That will take some time.

They will possibly stop admitting new Non C-19 patients to NYC hospitals and divert them to these two locations.

Once a given hospital has moved or discharged Non C-19 patients, the hospital will possibly be designated as C-19 only.

If it goes anything like this, the Javits Center and the Comfort will initially be . . . . wait for it . . . . empty.

I didn't see TRMS last night. Was she reporting simply showing the state of these two locations or was she somehow pointing out that things were not right? IOW, was your OP reflecting her reporting or your interpretation of what you saw? Not slamming you. Just asking.

For non-Covid patients. Thing is, many hospitals are already stretched with resources and staff. Covid-19 sends the whole system in a horrible spiral

Some will die for lack of hospital beds. Some will die from the covid virus that they got while in the hospital. Some facilities should be set aside for those patients. Heart attacks, strokes, accidents, cancers, etc. won't stop because the beds are needed for covid patients.
