Getting the stimulus check if you haven't filed taxes for last two years?

My sister has been my step dad's caregiver for the last two years. He passed away in November and she is now looking to get back to gainful employment. The 1200 dollars would come in handy but she hasn't filed taxes in a couple of years since she had no income.

Anyone seen how folks like my sister can get their check or deposit?

Washington (CNN) "The Treasury Department, clearing up confusion, has announced Social Security recipients will not have to file a tax return in order to receive the economic stimulus payments the government is preparing to send out amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"It was unclear in guidance posted earlier this week whether Social Security recipients who don't normally file taxes would have to in order to receive the money. But the Treasury Department said Wednesday that those beneficiaries will automatically receive the money. The IRS will use the information that the Social Security Administration has on file. Social Security recipients won't have to take any action."

Click on the "Economic Impact Payment: What you need to know" subheading. It should tell you what you need to know.

she can simply fill out a 2019 return showing no income, but showing her banks routing and account numbers for direct deposit.

Just claim no income. She might also go back and file 2018 return as that might get the check to her faster. There's no negative and she won't owe anything. You could help her file online if she's not used to that.

I am going crazy because I filed 2018 twice, once electronically and then by mail, and I just got another letter saying they never received my return. No return no check.
