DU Poll - Describe your state of employment

DU represents a wide variety of skills and capabilities. A recent poll showed we skew a bit more to “aged like a fine wine” side of the age spectrum. Curious how everyone is able to handle these weeks on-end of downtime, working from home...or not working at all

That’s me apparently

Got the email last night

It’s not 100% certain but my colleagues are all posting about the furlough starting April 19

We can use PTO, although, and I have 22 days of that. I can stretch another two weeks if we’re able to use up sick days, too

By then the stimulus check should be in which, for us, would be enough for another two weeks

So I could, at best, stretch this all into mid June and still be ok, financially, and even continue paying bills, mortgage, car payment etc

But if I DO get furloughed, I’ll be on the horn to the creditors right away to see about a 2-3 month deferment or something.

losing any hope of our team being deemed essential and avoiding the furlough.

Won't know for sure until next week but 99.99% sure we will be.

And I'm guessing at least 6 weeks if not 10-12 worth of furlough.

But for now I am not working. My husband works from home, his job is safe. Which is good as he is almost 67. Has asthma and a possible heart issue. Testing still to be done but can’t be done at this time.
I am afraid to get another job if it means I could bring it home to him.

I’m solid Generation X. About to hit 50.

When the 2008 financial crisis was on the horizon, I worked for a lender services company; I did a lot of work with title abstractors. We saw something bad coming as early as mid-2006, when foreclosure title searches started increasing. So don’t listen to anyone who says that the Great Recession was completely unforeseen. I went to grad school in 2007, figuring that was a safe bet to spend two years, a typical recession. I haven’t had a full-time permanent position since!

Edited to add: I’m an adjunct instructor with no idea what I’m going to do when summer hits. I do know that I’m not getting any classes. Maybe I’ll start a Go Fund Me!

My income is very important to us right now. It is safe for the moment, I am working remotely.

But he works for other small businesses and that is slowing down. I mainly work in the summer at festivals and libraries, but that is all up in the air--good thing we don't rely on that income for survival!

almost 27 years ago. Except for running around doing errands, playing tennis, taking yoga class or traveling, my life is pretty much the same. I’m doing a lot of laundry and way more cleaning than normal - as my cleaning person cancelled her jobs. I’m still paying her, though.

My husband works for NYS in a very high position. Since the budget finally passed in the wee hours of the morning today - he will be working 20+ days pretty much exclusively on CV19.

He is working from home but really doesn’t like it. He hasn’t left the house, even once, in over a week.

I try to walk the dogs every day and work in my gardens on the warmer, nicer days.

I’m also doing online yoga once a day. It really helps my mood.
