Sen. Kelly Loeffler sold off hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of stock in January after being briefed about the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) began a Monday conference call with business leaders by complaining about media headlines related to her recent stock-trading scandal.
I just want to mention one thing since we're all together on a call," Loeffler said. "There's been some headlines some very inaccurate, really, I guess I would just say hurtful headlines about my portfolio activity."
Loeffler said that the allegations against her are "political in nature" and "false attacks."
Loeffler's "portfolio activity" included the sell-off of hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of stock in January after senators were briefed about the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

(38,187 posts)Calling them "snowflake" REALLY gets under their skin more than almost anything. If everyone who supports Trump and the rest of the Republicans started getting called, "snowflake" relentlessly, this whole Trump right wing leaning movement would be over so quick, heads would spin. They shrivel at being called that. It is why they use it as an insult toward us so much.

(22,114 posts)nothing. We all lost money during the crash (or a lot of us)...she got out because she had a f**king warning that things were going to get bad, what did she do? She didn't run to her voters and warn them, she instead called her broker, and said 'get out'!
Scumbag. She deserves a healthy charge of insider trading. And jail time. All of them.

(22,114 posts)and the SEC will investigate, being that these people blatantly used insider information, to score profits against everyone else...the SEC doesn't like insider trading for it destroys the integrity of the market places and also, causes others to lose money to them. Remember, these people are basically stealing from others in the marketplace.
Disgusting. These people should be not part of the problem, but responsible citizens, not engaging in illegal activities such as insider trading. The options trading is even worse, being that people had their stocks pulled away (this is what happens in an options trade), and forced to buy/sell (depending on the kind of options involved).
Disgusting. They should face charges, everyone else does. The SEC doesn't look kindly on these kinds of trades, nor should other market place participants. This means that anyone, owning any of the shares of the companies sold or brought, have standing to sue everyone of these people in court.
Take care, and be safe!

(82,849 posts)That's $500,000,000 in nice, round numbers. One of her trades was to dump about $43,000 in travel company stock (I think it was). To put that into terms you and I might better appreciate, suppose you had a net worth of $5,000 instead of five hundred million. Loeffler was trying to avoid a hit to her investment portfolio that would be the equivalent of forty-three cents to you or me. And that $0.43 was at risk only if the company went completely bust and didn't survive the pandemic.
These greedy motherfuckers never miss a trick.

Interestingly, at this point I'm not sure which opponent will be easier for the Democrat to beat. The awful Mr. Collins or Sen. Loeffler. Nice problem to have, I suppose.

(5,255 posts)When one accepts the job of a U.S. Senator, criticism sort of comes with the territory, so I'm sure sorry her feelings were hurt. But one is constrained to point out that one could avoid certain criticism by, say, not engaging in what sure looks like downright illegal activity.

(4,533 posts)They both said their shares are held in a trust controlled by a trustee who does not tell them in advance about sales and purchases. I suppose thats possible. I certainly believe Pelosi since the only stock sold might profit from a pandemic. I would like to hear from Loefflers trustee about why those stocks were sold. But it doesnt really matter. Loeffler will lose in the upcoming election to a Creepy Trump cultist congressman Doug Collins no matter what and Pelosi will continue to be loved.

The WNBA should "grow a pair" and
1) confiscate her $$$ she used to buy a share of the team and
2) ban her from the WNBA, period.

(3,557 posts)Its not political if you straight-up broke the law and used your insider knowledge for profit.
How many Democrats sold off their holding before the crash? Why does it always seem republicans are the party with the most issues with morality and abiding by the law??
