driving them to school.
election year.
i have found this in the past. being in the red panhandle of texas, i have been awfully impressed how teachers that i know are repugs for the most part teach children in a nonbias way. but, with events that happen, i have found it to be really important to lay out the facts for the kids before stepping into school so they are well informed and can address any given issue with facts instead of fox news propaganda. it has worked really well, the teachers receptive in the kids participating in discussion giving a different perspective.
BUT... today was a day to lay out how obama has worked hard at settling hostility in the middle east after the bush years. and the possible reasoning for this film, here and now. who financially backed this film. the known results of the film. a mob is not the govt. romneys and republicans reaction. libya govt reaction. obamas statement.
and do we attack a country killing innocents because a mob in a country attacked an embassy killing innocents.
tis the time to keep those around informed....

(110,159 posts)shows like sponge bob, ed ed and eddy, to commercials, to fundamentalists in their private school, to 9/11 at 5 yrs old.
this is their world. and a parent needs to talk hard and fast to stay up with what they are being fed.
i have been a believer, their job is to stimulate me with their intellect to not be boring, lol, as much as anything.

(11,913 posts)He'll probably get it in school though and we'll be discussing it tonight. His civics teacher seems really on-the-ball, as does his English and Art teachers.
That being said, I was helping him with the 9/11 story last night (homework). He had to write about what he 'remembered' of 9/11. He was only 1.5 yrs old when it happened! He doesn't REMEMBER anything, just what he's been told. I was trying to help him sort it all out so he could get his assignment done without any of the 'conspiracy stories' getting in the way. We kept it to just the basic facts, especially since the teacher only asked for 2-3 paragraphs.
The next unit (thankfully!!!) is on Voting Rights

(110,159 posts)about 911 before i got the chance to get to him. i really thought they would not give the info allowing the parent to address with a child so young.
yes, for some very young children, they had to address a very huge, scary issue, way before their time.

(110,159 posts)that is the way it is in our house.
and we will probably have more of these opportunities. i just think it is the best in raising kids to be confident to speak out, and a part of their world.
hugs to you, in your efforts, too
