Childhood friend's only son put on ventilator hour ago

He’s 38. Chicago. Admitted to VA hospital two days ago. Ran a temperature between 101-104 for at least four days. Thursday night she dropped him at the hospital after he complained of chest tightness now she’s self quarantined. They put him on oxygen only. He’s been face timing and calling even talked to his mom this morning. She said he sounded good. Then the doctor called about 9 AM saying he has pneumonia and being moved to a ventilator and ICU.

Send up prayers, thoughts.... positive energy

Our families are like kin. It’s doubly bad because I can’t physically comfort her nor she him.

Not being able to be there must be so excruciating for you all. Hope you stay in close touch electronically so you can be there for them. I feel so sorry for the son being stuck in that situation with no loved ones to comfort him, I will never forget how bad it was for mom on a vent.

Hope the nurses are able to provide him some human care & comfort and that he lives to recover fully from this nightmare.

drug also used for Covid...still fighting. fingers crossed...in ICU.

We humans need the touch and to look others in the eye and hear their voice in person.

Perhaps there's a way you could send her a little something that allows her to touch something from you.

20. it's good he was in the hospital when he took that sudden bad turn.

When that happens, immediate incubation is needed. Fortunately he got it right away, and at 38, his chances are better than most in the ICU, though still not much better than 50%. A 17 year old with Covid-19 here in California was at home when he took that turn. By the time they got him to the hospital, he could not be saved.
