we're actually lucky that donnie is so incredibly politically inept

if donnie had even a tiny amount of political sense about him, or really learned anything basic in the last three years, he would have known what every politician, from mayor on up, knows:

disasters from outside are political gold. hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, terrorist attacks, and so on.

these are obviously horrible things to happen to any community, but for a politician, these are golden opportunities. everyone is scared and confused and everyone wants the comfort of a leader who will provide reassurance.

it's an opportunity for any politician struggling in the polls to instantly transform themselves into a leader that everyone rallies behind.

even a politician as clumsy and dumb as shrub understood this and made some decent "unifying" comments shortly after 9/11. he pissed away that political capital later, but for a while, he was at an astonishing 90% approval.

if donnie understood the first thing about politics, he would have quickly made a speech about us coming together as a nation, putting differences aside, and fighting a common enemy.

he could then have largely done whatever he was going to do anyway, but that one speech would have transformed his image overnight.

thank goodness he proved too incompetent to even serve his own image....

It's intentional. He gets no pardon for being an idiot.
If he were smarter, there'd simply be more ruin.
The man is a criminal.

We call him a con man, but it's like he isn't even trying to con us anymore. He's just being criminal. He forgot to pretend to be legit.

He rode several hurricanes right into a senate seat. He was “lucky” enough that the last one threatened the entire state from stem to stern. He spent the whole week flying from county to county doing 3 minute introductions then sitting back and taking credit for the local emergency management preparations.

Then he would do trumpian things like suspend tolls but make sure the electronic signs told people that it was due to his largesse. This extended long passed the time where it made emergency sense so he was just using state money to pay his own back. Much like making sure the stimulus checks have Trump’s signature on them.

7. tRump could have come clean about all of his sins and misdeeds on prime time tv.

He might even have begged forgiveness. However, we know too much about him. We know he lies and makes things up out of whole cloth as he goes along. So I seriously doubt there is anything he could say or do that would bring us together, ready to sing Kumbaya. It is a nice thought that he could have brought us all together in this time of crisis. But for me (and I’m willing to bet there are many, many others who feel like me), the hate runs too deep. He has hurt too many people and done too many terrible things.

The time to do the right thing to bring us together was long ago. He does not have it in him. He will go to his grave with all of the crimes stacked up like cord wood. I do not expect him to ever admit doing wrong nor ask us to forgive him.

If we come together it won’t be at his request or invitation. Somebody else will be doing that. With any kind of luck, he will be gone soon and we can look to a real leader for inspiration. Something tRump could never do.

and he has never accomplished anything worthwhile.* Every news editor in NY knew all his tricks and used him for filler on a slow news day. And even that was just to shut him up and get him to stop calling for a few hours.

There's a feeling that he was actually flat broke after the last bankruptcy, but the DeutscheBank loans kept him alive until he actually made some money with the TV show. Then the overseers let him buy into some "safe" deals.

*OK, there was that Central Park skating rink thing- the one thing he did that actually worked.

BUT-- what happened was the machinery was old and crapped out. NYC, as usual went through it's horrific bidding process to fix it, and someone won the bid with an experimental system that didn't work. After fooling around with it for months, the city was between a rock and a hard place trying to get something to work by Christmas and explain the money already spent.

Trump jumped in to save the day and offered to fix things at his expense. What he did was hire the old outfit to replace the broken stuff and get it working. Not being the city, he could order the job to start without city paperwork and get it done. No big deal, and no big deal when he tried to get the city to pay for his "gift". Whether or not the city paid, I don't remember.

So, he didn't do anything any contractor in the area couldn't do on a weekend, but he's still bragging about it.
