Coronavirus: Honda announces furloughs, early retirement program

Honda says the majority of its salaried and support associates at its U.S. operations will be furloughed for two weeks.

The automaker didn’t elaborate on the order, which it posted on its website Wednesday.

Honda has suspended production for its automobile, engine and transmission plants in the U.S. and Canada through May 1. Honda began its automobile production suspension on March 23. Like other automakers, the company has seen sales of vehicles fall as consumers remain at home during the coronavirus outbreak.

Honda has facilities in Marysville, Logan, East Liberty and Anna, Ohio.

Separately, Honda has come out with an early retirement program that gives eligible associates the chance to retire and received enhanced benefits.
