Aren’t we all supposed to be on the same team?

I had a reply post hidden this morning because I misread the question asked in the OP.

The question put forth by justiceforall was ‘Maybe we can make #DescribeRomneyInOneWord trend too'. The TITLE of this post was about the Romney campaign. I misread the TEXT of the post and thought the OP was asking for more one-word descriptions for Romney. I replied ‘disastrous’. Yes, I screwed up, but make no mistake, I am an ardent, enthusiastic supporter of President Obama.

And I understand that there are trolls on DU, as on every other website in the world. But I contributed to DU shortly after I joined. One jurist even wrote “Wow. A donating troll. Clever”. Does that make even the least bit of sense? Why would I bother to donate if I was a troll? Be assured that I have better things to do with my time and money than troll websites.

I have served on several juries since joining DU. I only agree to serve when I have sufficient time to review the OP and the associated alert and really put some thought into it. I wouldn’t serve if I didn’t have the time to give this the attention it deserves.

I am new to DU, I am human, and I make mistakes. Perhaps it would have been more civil if the person who alerted would have simply replied to me and asked ‘WTF’.

I have never known a group of people so quick to pounce on someone else. Not just me; I have noticed that other DU members are attacked as well, with the attackers always assuming there are trolls aboard, or assuming that the poster is being callous. Aren’t we all supposed to be on the same team?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

But, it was an honest mistake on both sides.

Just FYI, this should be posted in Meta so you'll probably get this thread locked. If so, I would strongly advise you to repost in Meta (you'll be hounded for a link, so have one in your thread).

BTW...welcome to DU. It's not always like that, I promise. If you look a bit more closely, you'll see the majority of us don't do any pouncing. We're patient and watchful, but give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

It actually took me awhile to figure out you can just copy it and paste it from the address bar at the top.

I misunderstood a post when I was on a jury once, but thankfully the post was not hidden. I was so embarrassed I PM'd and apologized the DU member who I had misunderstood.

Someone misunderstood my 4th post here many years ago, and implied that I was a freeper, and I was really hurt, because I'm pretty much gone beyond left. Over the years, this poster and I came to be great DU friends. She passed away a few years back; I really miss her.

Your OP here may be locked by hosts, and hosts may explain to you that your OP belongs in Meta. I encourage you to re-post it there.

So sorry that this happened to you, fleur-de-lisa, and welcome to DU.

I was heartbroken when one of my threads was taken down by jury vote...not because the jury voted to do so but because I had not meant any harm and was embarrassed that I didn't understand how the post might be interpreted. Heck, my feelings get hurt if I don't get replies to my comments even when I post silly stuff.

I live alone and DU is a big part of my day (and night since I don't sleep). I know I depend on it too much, but I do absolutely love it. DUers are so smart and they write with incredible insight and intelligence. These people are up-to-date and always give sources so I trust what's being put on here. I believe the jury decisions are necessary to keep that high level of credibility (Of course, I'm always glad to serve. Surprisingly, 9 out of 10 times I'm with the majority. So maybe I have some sense after all. ).

Anyway, it's a great place especially during elections and I'd be lost without it.

Welcome to DU.

You'll get used to the suspicious, xenophobic culture on DU after a while. It's actually a good thing. We want this to be place where we can debate progressive ideas amongst ourselves w/o RW assholes constantly disrupting our discussions by spewing their talking points, lies and memes at us.

We can at times go a bit overboard with manning the parapets and protecting the little bastion of liberalism that we have created here. Don't let it worry you. Your true colors will show over time and people will know you belong here.

Peace,
SR
