Scott Brown pushed STOCK Act, but bill Obama signed in ad was not his

US Senator Scott Brown boasts in his most recent television ad that President Obama signed into law a bill he filed to prevent members of Congress from using insider information to profit in the stock market.“So I filed a bill to stop insider trading in Congress, and got it passed and signed into law,” Brown says in the ad, which shows him standing with Obama at a White House signing ceremony.

Here’s the relevent excerpt from the Globe story, which explains Brown’s role in the legislation, known as the STOCK Act:
Within three days of a “60 Minutes’’ broadcast that suggested some members of Congress were financially profiting from advance knowledge of government regulations, Brown introduced a measure blocking anyone in Congress from using nonpublic information to influence personal investments. Brown muscled his way into the headlines in a race against a fellow Senate freshman, Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat from New York who was drafting her own version of the same bill.

Brown is running ads everywhere of his major non accomplishment, the problem is, he plagiarized a bill that never made it out of committee. the bill that passed was written by Lieberman.
Scott has never met a camera that he didn't fall in love with. I remember after the President's State of the Union address, Brown jumped out of his chair as Obama was walking down the isle. He wanted to to let the world see that he's a good moderate & was on top of the insider trading issue.

1. Aside from the fact that it isn't his bill, he talks to his audience like they are a bunch of MORONS

He sounds like he's trying to explain the Theory of Relativity to pre-schoolers. It's a condescending tone, made worse by the "secret W" he puts in his wwwords. "I'm Scott Bwown, and I apprwove this message." It's not QUITE Elmer Fudd's Wascally Wabbit, but it's close--you find that "secret W" in the verbiage of many in the greater Boston area on occasion. It can make even smart people (and he's not one of those) sound a bit stupid.

He's running these "On the rwoad" ads in heavy rotation--they're dumb as dirt, and annoying as hell. Another one has him visiting a Medal of Honor winner, like the award will somehow rub off on him by sheer proximity. Then, there's the Ray Flynn (former mayor of Boston--another fan of the "secret W" in his conversation) ad--the "I'm a Democrat, BUT..." routine. Ray Flynn is a hyper-Catholic who has absolutely NOTHING in common with the Democratic platform--the party left him a long time ago, even if he doesn't realize it. And he's aged/melted so profoundly that the ad has to show a picture of him in his youth in order to trip the memory circuits of most greater Bostonians.

He has another where he boo-hoos over the fishermen's woes--but doesn't mention that Barney Frank did more for those guys in a week than this clown has done in his career.

The ads are expensive, but they are pretty much content-free. That's their failing. Let's hope the electorate isn't swayed by pretty colors and background music.

2. I'm glad he is getting called on this

I hope that if this becomes better known, that someone in MA will use video of the disgraceful move Brown made at the end of the SOFU that you mention where he confronted President Obama, who asked for such legislation in his speech, to push Reid to get "his" bill that was with Reid to the floor for a vote. That bill was, of course, not his, but Lieberman's. His action was presumptuous and done so he would have that video.

Funny that Howie Carr really did finally get a "Senator liveshot" who would actually deserve that moniker. From the SOTU nonsense to running to a camera to claim he saw photos of a dead OBL.
