Were on the other side of the medical aspect of this. The federal government rose to the challenge, and this is a great success story.

(1,697 posts)How do fucking fox watchers believe this shit????

(11,738 posts)If you are told something day in day out then you will believe it. If you are told every day that ONLY what you are watching (Fox, OANN, etc...) are the truth and all other media is "liberal" and you are being lied to, then you are prevented from considering that you are being lied to by Fox, etc...
Just because we have access to other media outlets and the vast majority comport to the shared reality in varying degrees, doesn't mean that everyone is living in that shared reality. This in my opinion, is the reason that our political and social problems have become as they are now. We have always been divided politically and socially to some extent. I mean we had a Civil War less than 160 years ago. We had violent clashes all over the country over race, gender, sexuality, and war less than 60 years ago. Division and civil strife are not new. The difference is that back then, the information that people received came from the same sources and what was different was the way they were interpreted and the causes attributed. Now, there is a certain proportion of the population that has an entirely different set of information that is false or heavily skewed BUT they believe that what the vast majority of people are receiving from all other sources, is what is fake or heavily skewed.

(35,438 posts)Most of us have very limited economic opportunities. Most of us will be poor or very near poor for most our lives. The 1% invests a ton of money into media to convince large segments of Americans that it's liberals, not their shitty WalMart job, that's making their lives hell.

(11,738 posts)They also invest tons of money into convincing people that any attempt to change the distribution of benefits, will result in tyranny and that the money of the poor will be taken away and given to lazy people who do not want to work. I think that for many people, it is easier to think that people in the same situation or worse than theirs, are the problem. It is an easier fight, and the government can help get "those people" away from you. The other choice is a fight against the wealthiest people who own the jobs, the media, and who have sway over the politicians who write the laws and the police who enforce them.

(35,438 posts)The freedom to go bankrupt if you have ANY health care problem?
The freedom to work a shitty job for life?
The freedom to be underpaid?
The freedom to be ignorant?
The average European has a much better quality of life than the average American, no to say that Europe is utopia, but it's better than here.
