Omissions are due to Dave's private nature. I will miss you, my friend. Cross gently.

(28,158 posts)It also sounds like he will be missed greatly by those who knew him. That's all any one could ask for I think.
I'm glad you're life was touched by such a vibrant soul. For some reason I'll never understand, those are the ones who leave here too soon all too often.

(26,877 posts)Dave was meticulous. Everything - his sound system, his TV, his Vette - had to be perfect. Not to us, but to him. I learned a great deal from Dave.

(61,695 posts)Obituary was a fitting tribute, I'm sure, and should inspire all of us to live better.

(454 posts)Did he get to write it himself before he died? Nice to grieve with a little bit of humor.

(26,877 posts)Dave would've laughed his ass off at it.

(26,877 posts)He encouraged everyone to bring their favorite spirits to the hospice... He was too ill to partake, but I'm sure he was joyous that his friends weren't.

(12,017 posts)and I am sorry for your loss and happy for those he touched with his life.
on a practical note, you mention omitting info due to his private nature? with the info here, it was very easy to find him (which I did prior to seeing your note on the omissions). you might want to edit further unless you don't mind people looking him up.

(3,056 posts)I also lost my husband way too soon, and he had the same sense of grabbing life with both hands, holding on, and enjoying it. There's no doubt he slid into the next stage sideways, saying "Wow, what a ride!" I'll leave you with this...it brought me great comfort at the time, and still does.
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says,
"There she goes!" Gone where? Gone from my sight . . . that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There she goes!" there are other eyes watching her coming . . . and other voices ready to take up the glad shout . . . " Here she comes! " ~Henry Van Dyke
By now, I hope Dave has met up with my Mike, and they're enjoying a cold one together.

(1,353 posts)The hospice sent me the "I am standing on the seashore." It really helped, and I hope it helps everyone it gets sent to.

(5,849 posts)I see that Dave is just a few years younger than me. He may not have had a lot of years in his life, but it looks like he had a lot of life in his years.
And if your obit can bring a smile to people's faces, then you have done a good job!
Cooley Hurd
(26,877 posts)...and helped put Dave's life - and death - into perspective. Dave never wanted anyone to be sad - especially now.

Great obit.

(26,877 posts)One of the coolest things about Guinness is the ability of the head to "stand up" when touched. Dave taught me that...
