Fight erupts at Michigan Capitol over doll with noose around neck


LANSING, MI -- A fight broke out on the steps of the Michigan Capitol Thursday morning during a protest aimed at Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the ongoing state of emergency and stay-at-home orders.

J. Scott Park, an MLive photographer, witnessed the fight break out after a man carrying a garbage can filled with a sign, an ax and an American flag removed the flag from the can. Attached to the bottom of the flag was an unclothed doll with brown hair that was hanging from a noose.

We all know what kind of racist dog whistle nooses are. These assholes are fooling no one. IMO, the ones doing racist crap like that should be doxxed. Let their employers and everyone else where they live know what kind of person they really are. Of course, most who have had to deal with those types already know, but does their employer know? Most companies do not want that kind of negative attention for their businesses. Those assholes should be outed so they can learn how to quit being such racist dickheads.

race is injected into the object because of its historical use hanging black people. The symbol of a noose doesn't lose it's significance with Southern whites, just because it is associated in this case with a white woman. I find the death threats she's getting more objectionable than the effigy with the noose. Terror is terror, even when a noose is just an innocent little noose.

a noose is NOT just a noose .. any more than the Confederate battle flag is JUST a flag. We can try to argue these things .. but in point of fact these (and others) have taken on symbolism and weight that just simple overlays and ultimately trumps the flag is a flag rationale. To argue otherwise is strictly disingenuous.


That's the responsible and academic side of the argument. The other, and probably much more grounded, is that anyone running around today's world trying to convince you that a noose is somehow representative of "frontier justice" or a Clint Eastwood-John Wayne ethic .. or any other damned thing .. is just flat out blowing smoke up your whozits. Plain as that. They know better .. and so should you.
