In some of the least surprising polling numbers ever

Of course a large majority would choose Obama. This poll tells us that there are a significant minority of racist arseholes out there - but the majority is still sound as a pound.

Of course Obama cannot run against Trump. But he does not have to cause Biden is doing a very good job at biffing Trump in the polls also...

Just one poll in May...but
@JoeBiden
's home basement might turn out to be the best campaign HQ since Wm McKinley's front porch. NEW Quinnipiac Poll (national): Biden 50% - Trump 39%. +11 Biden, was +8 Biden in early April. Bigger D margin than other recent polls, though.

Biff. Baff. Uppercut.

No wonder Trump is throwing every nasty thing he can make up at this. He is shitting bricks that life is about to take a huge chuck out of his humongous white privileged arse. And he knows these numbers will continue to drop as the pandemic takes hold in red states and people start to die in numbers even as Trump demands they get back to work dammit.

The night is always darkest just before dawn. Things are going to be dark for the next few months but a new dawn is coming.

At this point we must all hope that Biden takes that +11 and runs with it to the point that be defeats Trump by such a huge number even with all his rigging of the government he will have no choice but to leave the white house.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case any more. Just another sign that Trump has lost a lot of mainstream conservatives, perhaps.

set in a dystopian future the other day, and one of the historic events leading to it was collapse of the old American nation state due to some event of mass societal pathology.

Not described beyond that, but we could all fill in a bunch of nonfictional details from the massive societal pathology we're living through.

along with the novel Revolt in 2100, and I read both.

For those who haven't read them, 2100's about a religious dictatorship that used Heinlein's 1953 notions of future technology to establish NK-level oppression and a culture of fear and ignorance that would make the Dark Ages seem enlightened. While the rest of the world remained normal but completely unknown outside the giant energy walls confining New America. Trump would love those.

In the four years since the United States elected the country’s first black president, a majority of Americans express outright prejudice toward blacks. Perhaps even more surprising though is that the numbers have slightly increased since 2008. A full 51 percent of Americans explicitly express anti-black prejudice, up from 48 percent in 2008, according to the Associated Press. When an implicit racial attitudes test is used the number increases to 56 percent, compared to 49 percent four years ago. The AP surveys, which were carried out by university researchers, ultimately found that President Obama could lose a net 2 percentage points of the popular vote due to anti-black attitudes.
