it was well over 26 years old when I was born

if you count

October 29, 1969 (its 50th anniversary was almost 7 months ago)

as its birthdate

(first ever message sent, from UCLA to Stanford)

https://thisdayintechhistory.com/10/29/first-message-on-the-internet/

the log

UCLA student Charley Kline attempts to transmit the text “login” to a computer at the Stanford Research Institute over the first link on the ARPANET, which was the precursor to the modern Internet. After the letters “l” and “o” are sent the system crashed, making the first message ever sent on the Internet “lo”. About an hour later, after recovering from the crash, the full text of “login” is successfully sent.

if you mean the web

the first server at CERN was turned on December 24, 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee

this is the NeXT computer he used

the first website went live August 6th, 1991

CERN restored a 1992 copy of the first-ever website that Berners-Lee created to arrange CERN-related information. It was the earliest copy CERN could find at the time, and Noyes promised then to keep looking. (CRAZY he did not instantly make a copy or at least take a pic!!!)

this was/is the url

http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

and the site, ie one static page
