Wtf. Chris hayes is back at it with Tara reade.
he's got a journalist who recounted the whole story saying it sounded credible at the time. She did not address reade's credibility issues. Hayes is meekly trying to do that but if you caught the first few minutes of the broadcast you would think reade is perfectly credible.
Hayes is totally inept at covering this. It backfires every time.

1. Guess He Didn't Learn His Lesson First Time Around
and that so-called journalist needs to be held accountable. How anyone could continue with this is beyond me, her own lawyer couldn't even do that and dropped her.

2. Eh he started by saying there were credibility issue
It wasn't the full on she's a liar you want but no way anyone watched that and came away with it as a defense of Reade.

9. Context matters. Especially in this era of YouTube and media clips.
they did try to say she was not credible at the end if the discussion. Instead of leading with ii, they unloaded the whole debunked story. If you had only caught the first few minutes, you would have a very different opinion as if you'd caught the last few.

12. Not what I saw
I saw him lead with her attorney quitting and recent credibility issues.
He clearly doesn't want to engage in what he called dragging her through the mud but he repeatedly said her credibility overall was questionable and her story has significantly changed. |

6. It did not backfire. He does it on purpose.
He interviewed her like it is May 7 when her article first came out, instead of May 22 when so much more has come out about Tara. He advised everyone to go read Laura's Vox article as if it is breaking news.

Spent the segment on Joe Biden and Tara Reade and spent about 10 seconds on Trump accusers.

14. I saw it and you are mistaken
It was all about the woman’s credibility issues. The conclusion by both of them was that Tara’s acquaintances and relatives have problem with her credibility.
This is the interview that Chris Hayes is doing to make up for bringing her story in the first place. |

17. They did discuss her credibility
however, they framed it the wrong way. They led with that article that this journalist published may 8 and then pointed out inconsistencies. For several minutes it was a redux of May 8th. Hayes was still encouraging people to go read this article.
A more effective way would have been to discuss in depth all that has happened since rather that have his guest rattle out the original story and meekly debunk it. Heck, the interview closed with him encouraging people to go read it again. |

19. they literally led with...her attorney dropped her
that was literally the first thing he talked about.
The literal second thing he talked about was recent credibility issues. Now, I would have liked for him to have actually mentioned the specifics of that in much greater detail than he did, but mention them he did. Second thing. Her original story lays out all of the massive changes not of just Reade but her friends. It's not like it says, hers what Reade says and she's credible. You wanted Hays to effectively call her a liar. He's never going to do that. Ever. |

18. Hayes is a solid journalist.
Last edited Fri May 22, 2020, 09:57 PM - Edit history (1) He had to cover the Reade story because mainstream outlets like WaPo, NYT etc were covering it.
Hayes, as a high profile white male, was (IMO) attempting (perhaps too hard) to avoid being the stereotype - ie the type who downplays women's claims that MeToo talks about. But even Alyssa Milano and others came out in support of Biden, seeing through Reade's shenanigans. |

22. I am objecting to the way he covered it.
not that he did. It was centered about promoting this may 8th article that his guest had written. They then meekly pointed out inconsistencies. Yet, at the end of the interview Hayes is still recommending that people go read this article. Had he really wanted to cover the news which are that Reade is not credible, he should have focused on that rather than again discuss this article.

23. When Hayes first covered it major outlets
with credible journalists were also covering it.
He had on iirc Rebecca Traister who also is a solid journalists who also was meek about the inconsistencies. I'm giving them somewhat of a break for this reason: I think alot of these progressive journalists like Hayes, Traister and even Joy Reed - got caught in a moral dilemma, torn between desire to 'take women seriously' and their natural liberal leanings (to support Biden). These are Gen-Xers who grew up during the Anita Hill hearings, the Clinton scandals etc and I think are torn on this. I (also a Gen-X'er, man of color) personally have always had issues with MeToo in that yes there has been a long history of abuse baked into our culture against women - and we need to take allegations seriously - but they have to be credible allegations and we can't just 'believe everyone' who comes forward. Because that opens us up to serious ratfucking which is what I believe this Reade thing is - the GOP/Russia/Alt-Left attempting to ratfuck Biden/Dems and get Trump reelected (same thing I always felt about the Clinton scandals, were GOP hit jobs to 'kill Bill' lol.) |
