CNN: “Now, a serious divide has emerged among the President’s top allies and advisers over how the President should address several nights of protests and riots.”

“Trump is being urged by some advisers to formally address the nation and call for calm, while others have said he should condemn the rioting and looting more forcefully or risk losing middle-of-the-road voters in November”

New York Times: “Some in the president’s circle see the escalations as a political boon, much in the way Richard M. Nixon won the presidency on a law-and-order platform after the 1968 riots.”

It's not like Biden has ever been called "soft on crime" so middle of the road voters (if there really are any) still have a good option.

Johnson decided to bail and said: "I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President."

And they're thinking about the most corrupt, ended-in-disaster presidency in American history when they say it.

The difference is that Trump is president unlike in 68 when there was Democratic POTUS.

You may remember just how well his tub-thumping "LAW AND ORDER!!!!" speech in 1992 went in helping GHW Bush to a second term.

As Molly Ivins noted, "Many people did not enjoy Pat Buchanan's speech. It probably sounded better in the originaly German."
