(12,373 posts)Dr Boden's report makes perfect sense but is the Independent exam...Help me understand the gap in conclusions...Is this a frequent occurrence?

(10,185 posts)The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said preliminary results "revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation," and Floyd had underlying health conditions of coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease.
The preliminary report added, "The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death." Dr. Baden obviously disagrees.
Both medical experts will testify in court. They will each offer their findings, and state "in my medical opinion..." It's up to the jury, after reviewing all the evidence, to decide which medical expert is most credible.

(25,980 posts)Why wasn't there a tox screen run to find and identify any potential intoxicants? A complete autopsy should have included one; just throwing the phrase around is wrong.
I am so glad there was an independent autopsy. The first one was a joke.

(10,185 posts)I imagine the "potential intoxicants" statement is based on accounts at the time of Floyd's arrest: what the store employee stated on the 911 call, what the cops observed as they arrested him, what they found in his vehicle and what the passengers in Floyd's vehicle said to the investigating officers. Until they have the tox screen, they won't know.
