The New York Times is coming under fire for its front-page coverage of President Donald Trumps threat on Monday to use the military against American citizens.
Trump said he was dispatching thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel and law enforcement to quell the civic unrest caused by a white police officer killing George Floyd, a Black man, in Minneapolis last week.
After Trumps comments, police used tear gas and rubber bullets on peaceful protesters outside the White House to give the president a photo op as he walked to a nearby church and posed for pictures with a Bible.
The Times front page shared by print editor Tom Jolly showed a headline across all six columns reading As Chaos Spreads, Trump Vows To End It Now. That, critics said, didnt come close to expressing what happened:

(10,533 posts)What they excel at most is telling stories from the perspective of those in power. Especially conservatives in power.
They aren't here to "save" democracy. They're here to frame the news in the most power-friendly way. And to present every issue as a "controversy" as a way to increase subscription revenue, even if that means the truth gets lost.
Framing the news to benefit the powerful means that they maintain their access to those in power. Framing every issue as a "controversy", even if one side is clearly right and the other is clearly wrong, allows them to generate clicks and views without upsetting the bad-faith actors who occupy one side.
And Dean Baquet is orchestrating it all. He should be disowned by every journalist with integrity.
