Looters who hit L.A. stores explain what they did: 'Get my portion!'

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/looters-who-hit-la-stores-explain-what-they-did-get-my-portion/ar-BB155hRE

The young man flanked the shattered entry of a ransacked CVS in Santa Monica, where people had swept the shelves clean of everything from diapers to detergent. The man, who did not cover his face, admitted he was a looter. He did not apologize.

“We’ve got no other way of showing people how angry we are,” he said.

Out of the store ran another young man, this one holding a carton of eggs. He grabbed a friend and started scanning the street for targets: police cars. “We’re doing it because we can,” he said.

Over in Van Nuys, a teenage boy standing outside a ravaged Skechers store held up a backpack. That was all he took. But it was enough, he said.

“We are just trying to provide and take up the opportunity that we are getting right now. That’s all.”

1. I will ALWAYS remember being told the economy was the best ever because the Dow was at a record high
Sat Jun 6, 2020, 02:09 PM

And I went to bed hungry that night... something that never happened in my life. And it happened for a while, me being told the economy was soOoO great but I had trouble getting money for food.

Apparently, I was the idiot because I just had to believe my literal gut and the emptiness it had over an arbitrary line on a chart.

And you've got people saying "Sure we got a pandemic, but isn't the economy more important?"

I don't agree with the looting but I can see why it happens and how some people could even see it might send a message... when people start caring more about the constructed Dow and profit margins than human lives, you can hit them in their pocketbooks to get that message across.

Feds charge man with setting fire to Chicago police vehicle, 3 others face gun charges in connection to weekend looting in Chicago
A South Side man was hit with federal arson charges Tuesday alleging he set fire to a Chicago police SUV in the Loop while wearing a “Joker” clown mask during the weekend unrest.

Timothy O’Donnell, 31, was seen on video taken by a bystander on Saturday approaching the police vehicle parked in the 200 block of North State Street and placing a lit object into the car’s gas tank, according to an eight-page criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

After the squad car burst into flames, O’Donnell was captured in a photograph provided by a different witness posing in front of the blaze

Prosecutors: 3 men plotted to terrorize Vegas protest

LAS VEGAS — Three Nevada men with ties to a loose movement of right-wing extremists advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government have been arrested on terrorism-related charges in what authorities say was a conspiracy to spark violence during recent protests in Las Vegas.

Federal prosecutors say the three white men with U.S. military experience are accused of conspiring to carry out a plan that began in April in conjunction with protests to reopen businesses closed because of the coronavirus and later sought to capitalize on protests over the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis after
a white officer pressed his knee into his neck for several minutes even after he stopped moving and pleading for air.

The three men were arrested Saturday on the way to a protest in downtown Las Vegas after filling gas cans at a parking lot and making Molotov cocktails in glass bottles, according to a copy of the criminal complaint obtained by The Associated Press.

Burning and looting businesses had the effect of putting a magnifying glass on police brutality and the institutional racism still entrenched in our justice system and society as a whole.

Riot is the evolution of peaceful protests once peaceful protests are no longer effective.

7. Minneapolis neighborhoods face food desert after looting closes multiple stores
Sun Jun 7, 2020, 12:42 PM
Jun 2020
"With Cub, Target, two Aldi stores and many small markets damaged by rioting over the past week, Longfellow and about eight other neighborhoods have nearly become a food desert.

“I consider the loss of these businesses devastating,” said Melanie Majors, executive director of the Longfellow Community Council. “Besides just the food, there’s a lack of retail for diapers, formula, household goods, even clothing.”

I live about two-three miles away, and while my neighborhood was relatively quiet, I know business owners who are struggling to understand why they were targeted on Lake Street.
