DELLWOOD A Florissant detective has been suspended after knocking down a man while driving an unmarked police SUV and then striking the man on the ground, a video appears to show.
After seeing that video, I was deeply concerned about the content of it, Florissant police Chief Tim Fagan said late Saturday at a news conference.
Fagan said the 31-year-old driver of the police vehicle is a detective who has worked at the department for nine years and that two additional officers have been put on leave.
About 100 protesters gathered outside the Florissant Police Department Sunday night, blocking Lindbergh Boulevard and laying down in the street. Traffic barriers were placed in front of the police building and the windows were boarded.

(6,930 posts)Talking with the police pretty frequently then? Perhaps I have you mixed up with another. Sadly however, sometimes police need to be called...so ACAB might sound cool, but when you need help, most will call the cops.

They bungled the investigation of one of my neighbor's murders quite badly, and made an apprehension years later because of dumb luck, not any solid police work.
So, no, I'm not a fan of the police.

(6,930 posts)What will you do? Do you have an alarm system? I do, and the one morning I forgot to turn it off before opening the door to let my dogs out, I was happy to see them there within five minutes. Embarrassed, but happy. I thanked the cop who arrived, a young black woman, and I apologized profusely. She was understanding and very nice about it. If youve had that many murders in your neighborhood, I would guess you have an alarm system. I only have one for the break on my insurance. My neighborhood is very safe, no murders that I know of.
And I am curious, how do police STOP a murder? Unless they happen to be right there?

They exist to hassle minorities and fill out paperwork after crimes have been committed.

In a video obtained by RSTLN, police officers in an unmarked vehicle is seen hitting a man then running him over to stop him from getting away. The incident happened in the 9800 block of Eastdell Drive in the City of Florissant.
Florissant police has confirmed the detective driving the unmarked suv has been suspended. Unfortunately there is no body cam footage because the officer was not wearing one at the time.
The 20-year-old man who was struck appeared to be hurt after the impact but that did not stop the detective from physically beating him. The incident happened close to midnight on June 2, 2020.
The man is heard screaming in pain for help and complying with the officer who is seen making the arrest. Sources close to RSTLN states that the man went to the hospital due to multiple injuries.
St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell released a statement regarding the video Saturday evening:
Upon learning of the existence of the video, we immediately began making investigative inquiries. We quickly learned that our office had a conflict of interest: a close relative of a staffer in our office was at the scene of the incident. The case was then assigned to St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar to act as a Special Prosecutor, as is our standard practice in conflict cases. We advised Florissant Chief Fagen to refer this matter to St. Louis County PD as well as the FBI for an independent investigation, which he informs us that he has already done.
This use of force is the very thing people across the country are protesting about yet some officers are still doing their job the way they feel is necessary. It is unclear why the man was being pursued at this time but he did have pending charges against him.
Chief Fagan states that the helicopter and the officer were looking for a particular vehicle after shots were fired near the police station. He knew nothing about the video until it RSTLN posted it.
We will update this story as it unfolds.
I am rendered speechless.

(38,958 posts)Eastdell Drive is within the City of Dellwood which is nearby Florissant, but not within the Florissant City Limits. That said many of the municipalities cooperate on police matters as can be expected. As to why this officer was there will hopefully come out with the investigations that are proceeding.

(38,958 posts)I will be following the story as I am a Florissant resident. I will be in contact with the City Councilman for my Ward and share my thoughts as the investigation moves forward.

Oops.... Meant that as a reply to the OP
