The NBA superstar LeBron James and a group of other prominent black athletes and entertainers are starting a new group aimed at protecting African-Americans voting rights, seizing on the widespread fury against racial injustice that has fueled worldwide protests to amplify their voices in this falls presidential election, the New York Times reports.
Said James: Because of everything thats going on, people are finally starting to listen to us we feel like were finally getting a foot in the door. How long is up to us. We dont know. But we feel like were getting some ears and some attention, and this is the time for us to finally make a difference.

(31,261 posts)He is a very good role model for up and coming young people of any race. A super star athlete who puts his family first, does lots of community improvement work on his own dime, is not afraid to take on injustices, is a good businessman who doesn't waste his fortune on frivolous stuff.

(31,261 posts)voter suppression and then let it happen time after time. But there are lose-knit groups doing things to fight the problem, just without much funding. I believe Abram's group is going after that problem and is well funded. James is smart, my guess is he hooks up with existing local and Abram's group to bring lots of firepower to the effort, his name recognition alone among the groups affected by the problem is worth ten times each dollar that Mike Bloomberg has spent fighting the problem.
