Texas State staffer slurs George Floyd protesters as 'monkeys' -- and then quickly loses her job

June 10, 2020

By Travis Gettys

A university staff member was removed from her position at Texas State for using a racial slur against protesters.

Stacia Brassell posted comments on a KVUE-TV Facebook Live stream of a protest in Georgetown, and the university staff member slurred the demonstrators against police brutality as a “bunch of monkeys,” reported The University Star.

“I am going down there with Covid,” she added, according to screen shots posted by the student newspaper.

The university’s director of utility operations told the newspaper that Brassell was no longer employed as an administrative assistant, and her position was listed as vacant on the department website.

“Texas State University does not condone these posts and they do not reflect our values,” the university said in a statement. “At the core of who we are as Bobcats is our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to protecting the health and safety of our community. Any employee sharing comments such as these does not represent our community.”

only are such comments familiar and comfortable, but they never hear or see any consequences for those who make them among their friends and acquaintances.

When a person thinks and talks that way regularly without ever getting any pushback, it becomes such a habit that the person loses conscious control of such utterances.

Calls for resignation after Texas mayor says she sees Black Lives Matter as ‘a threat to our lives’
by: Wes Wilson, Tahera Rahman
Posted: Jun 9, 2020 / 08:23 PM CDT / Updated: Jun 11, 2020 / 08:41 AM CDT

WOODCREEK, Texas (KXAN) — In a recent Facebook post about race, an account belonging to the mayor of Woodcreek, Texas, in Hays County said the Black Lives Matter movement is a “threat to our lives.”

“I’m not a racist,” Mayor Gloria Whitehead said five times in a series of posts that she called a “Wake Up Message.”

“I started getting screenshots from citizens and I started looking at it and I was like, ‘Oh my God,'” says Woodcreek City Council member Brent Pulley.

“Violence toward people of color occurs statistically more toward each other than by law enforcement encounters. BLM knows this but is masquerading it’s true agenda,” Whitehead wrote.

Lord. But I did get an email from a right wing family member who is totally in the bubble. He says that 'Murika don't have no problem with racism.' The problem, he says, is black culture and its 'dependency' on Democratic handouts.

I think that illustrates the width of this social gap nicely. Because if someone is thinking like that after years of right wing acid being poured into their brains through hate-talk radio and Fox 'news,' how in the world do you break through?

AT THE POLLS IS MY ANSWER. We have to vote these morons out of office for good and begin implementing good policy. Because these people who say, "I am not a racist" are a big part of the problem.

they never hear stories of people getting fired for racist slurs and actions. Fox and RW talk radio are highly unlikely to publish those stories much like they covered over the sexual abuse events at Fox a while back.

Old Republican addition to the Commandments: "Never criticize or demean any Republican and never repeat reports of bad behavior no matter how bad or obvious it is. Doing so will result in your entire life being defunded and you will be banned from the country club."

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2020/06/05/texas-state-coach-danny-kaspar-basketball-players-claim-racist-remarks/3153334001/

Two former Texas State basketball players on Thursday claimed that coach Danny Kaspar used racially degrading language to motivate players.
Former point guard Jaylen Shead, who transferred to Washington State for his final season, alleged on Twitter that Kaspar used demeaning stereotypes and ethnic jokes with his players. Shead said the ongoing protests after the death of George Floyd pushed him to speak out.
"I could overlook the way he disregarded the rules and our health," Shead tweeted. "But I could not turn away from the many racially insensitive things that were said to me and other teammates."

My daughter is director of the Leadership program at TSU and specializes in diversity training. Unfortunately, she works only with students and not with chuckle-head staff members.

Shave any furry primate and what you end up with is a white skinned, cold primate with no protection from the sun. Unlike housecats, primates' pigmentation is not echoed by fur color.

So the monkey comparison really should be a slur against people with white skin, shouldn't it?

People who buy into the concept of race and associalted pejoratives are simply not logical.

I see it in a Facebook military alumni group I belong to. The right wingers who post vile political and racial stuff are astonished when Facebook deletes their posts and suspends them, or fact checks them.

As soon as they are allowed back, they do it again and are just as astonished when they are again deleted, fact checked or suspended. They don’t learn. Their bubble is their reality and it is impenetrable.

Most of the redneck students go to Texas A &M. Have visited in the last few years and it looks to be a greater percentage of Hispanic students these days. It’s a beautiful campus where LBJ was both a student and a teacher, I believe. She’s probably a relative anamoly
