Army bases are named after losers and traitors
The President is a nationalist. And that nation to him is white people.
its time for the people whove been in charge for 400 years to say enough is enough.
Rough quote paraphrased.

(7,715 posts)He had a totally distinguished political career, serving as US Representative and Senator from Maine, as well as Secretary of Defense.
When he was on the House Judiciary Committee, he was one of the first Rs to state he would support articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon in 1974. He was also Bill Clinton's Secretary of Defense.
He is a fine human being, and he is everything that folks like Susan Collins are not. If we had Republicans like William Cohen in charge of their party today, we absolutely would not be in the mess we are in.

(108,980 posts)Her thought provoking and often hard-hitting interviews earned her the respect of her media peers as well as the celebrities and world leaders she interviewed. Over the course of her 25 years in broadcast journalism, she has interviewed some of the most influential newsmakers in the world including President Bill Clinton, President Jimmy Carter, Margaret Thatcher, Rosa Parks, General Benjamin O. Davis, Senator Ted Kennedy, Oprah Winfrey, Larry King and Barbara Walters to name just a few.
Langhart Cohen is the wife of the former Defense Secretary William Cohen and feels that some of her most meaningful accomplishments happened during his tenure. She took an active role in her husbands career using her media influence and skills to support Secretary Cohens mission. She established the Citizen Patriot Award, The First Military Families Forum, and created and produced an annual musical salute to our military called, "The Pentagon Pops." Dubbed the "First Lady of the Pentagon", President Bill Clinton in his last State of the Union Address praised her for her efforts in maintaining the morale and well being of our men and women in uniform and their families.
Langhart Cohen has never been one to shy away from difficult subjects. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the gospel singer Mahalia Jackson proudly influenced her earlier years and Civil Rights activism. In 2004, she wrote her memoir, From Rage to Reason: My Life in Two Americas a book that candidly describes her own experiences with race in America. In 2007, she and her husband co-wrote Love in Black and White, a memoir about race, religion, romance and the bonds they share followed by a second book that they edited, Race & Reconciliation in America.

(3,321 posts)I am sick of hearing about "southern pride." What a load of bollocks.
Asshole traitors fought their own country, and lost. LOST, LOST, LOST! Since when has any country honored traitors? Never, that's when.
They need to STFU about pride, and beg for forgiveness.
Good for William Cohen.

(34,195 posts)Not all bases are.
Fort Meade, in Maryland, for example.
It is named for George G. Meade, a Union General from the U.S. Civil War, who served as commander of the Army of the Potomac.
Fort Knox, in Kentucky, being another.
It is named in honor of Henry Knox, Chief of Artillery in the American Revolutionary War and first United States Secretary of War.

Personally (my mother was from Norfolk, VA) I don't think southerners are all losers; just the ones that dream of dixie and pretending they were upper-crust.

We drove down to visit an older brother stationed there.
Not sure where we were, my dad stopped to ask someone "Where's Ft Meade?"
The guy responded "You're in the middle of it."

(3,334 posts)We shop at Camp LeJeune. We used to cut through the back gate to go to Topsail Beach without an I.D. Now we have to show our DoD I.D. to enter through the main gate, the only gate we can enter. The MPs' rifles are loaded and one press of a button and the road is blocked.
