Or both?
In my opinion, it would be better to ignore Trump, as much as possible. His supporters are more likely to blame other Republicans than to blame their hero, Donald Trump. Few minds will be changed by attacking Trump. We have seen that in the polls. He may temporarily go down but his numbers always return to his base support.
In my opinion, it would be more effective to attack individual Republicans. Republicans will be less likely to vote for incumbent Republicans during a recession or bad economic times, except for Donald Trump. The economy will have little impact on whether or not his supporters stick with him. As the leader of their cult, he has a certain immunity that other Republicans do not have.
Just my opinion.

(58,649 posts)If you're talking about Biden's campaign, he can do both, with the focus on Trump.
When it comes to state/local races, then it depends on the state/local climate. Some areas will be one way is best, other areas could be different.
We desperately need the Senate, like now.

(36,793 posts)Every republican running should have his image paired with an image of Trump saying "I take no responsibility at all."
Or some appropriate local issue that Trump ridicules.
You have to make clear that the barely-walking Constitutional crisis is the by-product of 70-years of Republican conservatism, and I have NEVER seen a candidate do that.
Wait! I have. But it was Republican candidates trashing liberals and liberal policies. And always with a sneer.
The enemy of the nation for 200-some years has been conservatism. It time to say that over and over.
And Biden should be clear: If you vote for me also vote for the D candidates for House, Senate, Governor, etc. right on down the line. This crap that the House/Senate is a disaster but my representative is not, has to end.

(24,412 posts)There is virtually no daylight between them. We need to tie Trump around the necks of GOPer candidates and force them to either embrace or repudiate Trump because, at the end of the day, if Trump gets re-elected, they will serve and enable him. People should know and understand before going to the polls that none of them can be counted on to repudiate them and/or vote to hold him accountable and we can't afford another 4 years of Trump being able to do virtually what he wants with impunity and allow his minions to further corrupt our national institutions, rule of law, criminally neglect the health and well-being of the majority of Americans in this country, etc.
