1. There are some still going on, but they weren't going to last forever.

The fact that some are still going on is impressive.

America’s attention span isn’t great.

2. Maybe I missed it, but I would have thought there might have been some recognition of today.

The anniversary of the Charleston murders. It seemed to go unnoticed except by some media.

6. I've seen it talked about all over the media

I'm not sure what you're watching/reading, but the outlets I've been following have all talked about it.

It's also on a different track from what's going on right now. It was an individual doing a mass killing. The police immediately arrested him. It was different than the state-sponsored brutality that BLM and others have been trying to highlight.

It's definitely related, but not completely relevant.

7. The op was referencing BLM.

I saw no recognition by that particular group. I saw it in the media, as I said. NPR, MSNBC, CNN, and local news outlets.

I was responding specifically to the op’s point. Perhaps reread?

Backed yourself into another corner, eh?

Asking what you think BLM should have done to commemorate the Charleston shooting after you said you thought "that particular group" would have done something to recognize the event is pretty much the definition of "on-topic."

But this isn't the first time that little ploy failed.

3. Marches lose their effectiveness if they become a daily thing

They have had an amazing impact. Just look at what's happened in the last few weeks.

There'll be a big march in August - that will need time and planning.

It's important to remember that marches and protests are a tactic to be used thoughtfully to achieve a larger goal. They aren't THE thing.

Rather than asking, why not get involved with your local BLM chapter?

The right wing agitators are getting caught or crawling back under their rocks. The cops are being told to cut the crap, so giant shows of force are not as frequent or as violent.

My nearest big is no hotbed if activist activity, but there are at least two demonstrations PER DAY happening. On the weekends, the rural communities around me are having rallies - ALL of them.

12. There will be protests on Friday (Juneteenth).

The annual celebration of emancipation from slavery in the US, Juneteenth, will be marked with a new energy and mass demonstrations this year amid the global uprisings against systemic racism sparked by the police killing of George Floyd.

Celebrations planned for the Friday holiday have morphed into protests and marches in cities large and small across the US.

In New York City, more than a dozen protests are planned. Detroit is hosting a week of events, culminating in a rally on Friday morning. On the west coast, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) announced it will shut down 29 ports in solidarity.

Tensions are expected to be especially high in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where on Saturday Donald Trump will have his first campaign rally since the Covid-19 lockdowns began. The rally was initially planned for Friday, but the Trump campaign moved the date after facing widespread criticism that scheduling the rally on Juneteenth was a nod to white supremacists.
