Congress NC-9: Jennifer Roberts now in dead heat with Republican in heavy GOP district.

Poll shows dead heat in NC 9th Congressional District
Jennifer Roberts running strong among key group of unaffiliated voters

A new poll of likely voters in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District shows the race as a dead heat between Jennifer Roberts and Robert Pittenger. The poll, commissioned by Lake Research Partners, surveyed 400 likely voters from September 9-11.

Jennifer Roberts’ strength among unaffiliated voters provides her with a clear path to victory in this district where registered Republicans make up 42% of likely voters and Democrats make up 30% of likely voters, with unaffiliated voters at 28%.

The poll of likely voters in Mecklenburg, Union and Iredell counties shows Jennifer Roberts with 37 percent support and Robert Pittenger with 38 percent, with 22 percent undecided and Libertarian Curtis Campbell with 3 percent.
>>>
Major findings of the poll include:
Jennifer Roberts’ base of support is as strong and large as Pittenger’s, 30% of voters say they strongly support Pittenger and 31% say they strongly support Roberts.
Jennifer Roberts is particularly strong in Mecklenburg County, where she is leading Pittenger 42% to 33%.
Unaffiliated voters make up 28 percent of likely voters and favor Roberts by 12 percentage points, 41% to 29%.

Methodology: Lake Research Partners designed and administered this telephone survey, using professional interviewers, with 407 likely November voters in NC-09. The survey was conducted September 9-11, 2012. Telephone numbers for the sample were generated from a list of registered voters in North Carolina. The margin of error for the total sample is +/- 4.86 percentage points and greater for sub-groups.

We can take this one, too, especially since the Dem Convention helped put this area on the map!

1. It would be nice if they did lose a district or two from being too cute in drawing

it could make up for one of the losses that we will surely have, we have lost both Shuller and Miller already and are quite likely to lose Kissler.

2. This one is very winnable for us. Roberts has an excellent reputation as a doer and an achiever.

She hasn't even started running ads yet, and when she does she should put this thing away. I hope people donate before the GOP realizes they have a chance to lose this one, then I expect they'll start pumping party money into this race - of course we know Karl will.

She has been a County Commissioner at large for quite awhile. Smartest and hardest working out of that entire bunch. She is a dem but plays well with others. I really like her and hope she wins.

I was surprised that she decided to run. The 9th has always been conservative. But maybe they redrew the boundaries just a touch too liberal Plus Pittenger had a nasty primary that included a runoff.

I think DNC assumed there was no way to win it, now, she's overtaking this guy and the DNC may be unprepared financially to help her out.

This is a BIG deal for NC - she's highly respected in Charlotte.

realize that Mitt Romney is not good for this nation and that Republicans are more anti-American than the Taliban. These people are evil, treacherous, and soulless.
