Romney: Obama voters “believe that they are victims”

http://www.salon.com/2012/09/17/romney_obama_voters_believe_that_they_are_victims/

Mitt Romney told a roomful of wealthy donors that the people who will vote for President Obama “no matter what” are, among other things, entitled freeloaders “who believe that they are victims.”

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Romney said at a private fundraiser earlier this year. “All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.”

I pay a pretty good amount and I'll vote for Obama no matter what.

Either our country provides an economic climate where we have jobs available for people that will pay enough to feed and shelter their families, our our country will have to feed and shelter people. I'd rather the former, as would the people I know who are out of work and on "entitlement" programs. But the Bush economic policy caused a bunch more people to end up on these "entitlement" programs, and now Romney wants to cut the programs while at the same time not just replicating, but expanding the Bush policies that caused the mess in the first place. Uh, no thanks.

is that wages are so low that such a high percentage are earning little enough to pay no income taxes. There are too many members of the working poor.

can make $45K and pay no federal income tax with standard deductions. They still pay 11.7% of their income in S.S. and state of Iowa taxes (assuming they are an Iowa resident of course).

So a family with three children earning up to $49,000 would pay no income tax, and would get an EITC check.

Very true that $49,000 for a family of 5 isn't much, but the 47% doesn't include only those defined as the working poor.

for the additional information.

$49k isn't poor, but you'd still have trouble making ends meet at the end of the month with 3 kids.

Oddly I know a lot of people who make less than that, substantially less in some cases, who are planning to vote for Obama.

From the poorest of the poor all the way up to the 250K per year income bracket, people on average pay 40% of their earning in taxes. Federal taxes are so progressive (weighing lightly on the poor) because most other taxes are not progressive at all.

The interesting thing is that those earning more than 250K per year, on average, pay about 17% of their earning toward taxes. The freeloaders are at the top, not the bottom.

Where can we give this guy direct feedback without being caught up on a donor request page?

And are there bigger victims than these whining corporations, poor little rich people, and teabaggers? Let's not forget the religious right who think that everyone else is prepping the arena and the lions for them.

Or we are living off government hand-outs.

They can't really make their minds up about us.

The fact is that we are among all income groups, just like Romney-voters are.
