Had a call just now from a POLICE org looking for donations to political resources... (I'm pissed)

Just got a call from our very RW El Dorado county sheriff's org, seeking to send me some literature and asking for money...to back their political interests...

I told him that the BLM movement and our own City Council have been working together and having dialog to work on changes in our community, even having a Town Hall (virtually) to discuss the hiring of our new police chief etc

...He just wanted me to tell him how much I'd be willing to donate to their cause...

FUCK the Police...these EDSO assholes have come to my house and roughed up my kid, thrown him in a police car with the windows down in freezing temps, given him a juvey record...for what? having arguments with his mom (one time he was actually running from some kids who were trying to beat him up and he called the cops to feel safe and they cuffed him instead)...ugh...I have also had one of these sheriffs follow me in my car to see if I would screw up so he could pull me over, as well as my daughter.

and yet his line was "These officers are out there putting their lives on the line for you"....NOT

He's lucky I was feeling courteous, I could have given him an earful!

but we don't need to be targeted any more than usual (mind you this is all white people, me and them)

I think when they send me their mailer asking for money I will write them a good letter and send them my donation: ONE PENNY

because I have been part of that group and the conversations...

Even though our family was harassed for over a year by the sheriff, I was hoping to see if there would be any conversation.
Once he started pushing dfor how much I would offer as a donation, i was done.

Our CITY cops might be open to some change, but the COUNTY Sheriffs are RW assholes and are proud of it

him saying they were putting their lives on the line was really my last straw... assholes
yeah, like bullying a 14 year old is sooooo dangerous

much of Tahoe's residents live in the County, which is under the jurisdiction of EDSO (el Dorado Sheriff Office) which is based in El Dorado Hills, VERY white and RW and not afraid to be openly aggressive.
(we've been trying to get rid of Tom McLintock for YEARS!)

while our city is being very open and progressive, the county seems to have doubled down on being the RW assholes we all knew they were

be intimidated. I also complained to my state legislators, or at least one of them, about it, more than once, and it might have gotten me finally put on their do not call list.

I've read that these cop telemarketing campaigns are almost always done by professional fund raisers, and the cop organization gets only about 10% of what is collected.

when he kept pushing for me to make a set donation amount, it was like he was "ordering" me

Our county sheriff was the one who decided NOT to enforce COVID travel restrictions because it was "unconstitutional" (and local EDSO officers said exactly that)
our county supervisors caved and said they couldn't MAKE him enforce because he is an elected official.

we see where the power lies....

I told him they shouldn't worry so much about me to put their lives on the line.
He didn't know what to say.

I tell them to save their breath and that I'm a criminal defense attorney and would never give them a cent.

and turned out that while some money went to some part of the police, a large percentage was kept for the administration... in other words, a con.

various groups (such as the cop shops in a location near you)

but...
i've gotten 3 (maybe 4) calls lately asking me to donate to a police organization

that's a lot lately. especially with all things considered

the last time they called i should have been more honest and said "sorry, i can't talk right now because i just turned on the news and i'm listing to a report about another cop beating another black guy" -- but i didn't. (and that was true--the timing was just too fucking weird.)
