I agree with you. Who takes it upon themselves to protect monuments to foreign invaders? I would say that they deserve whatever they get. The whole thing was based on a Facebook post that implied that outsiders were coming here to riot. And, once again, humiliating stupidity ensued. Honestly I could blame Facebook. But I remember when I was just a little kid in the mid 70s, our babysitter, (in her late 20s) terrorized us with tales or MLK mobs coming to kill us. (I churched the terminology up a bit there, since what she said was pretty horrific) and there was no Facebook back then. But there were racists and scared white people.
